• I've been trying to find an old 531 frame to build up, ideally English from the 50's or early 60's,

Gillott, Quinn, O'brien etc.. But I haven't had much luck in my size / budget..

Not too bothered if the paint's patchy as long as it's not a complete rustbucket!

seat tube around 22" or 22.5"

    Thanks!

  • i've got a 56 cm o'brian in pretty good condition -
dunno if it's 531 or what it's made of - recon it's probably around 1950's
    i'm in putney

oh and it's a touring frame if thats any use to you

  • Sounds good, have you got any pics of the bike? - I'm up in Hackney

  • some of the components have been canabalised but you can have the frame plus anything else that's left that you want -
the seat post is free and the stem is too - i gave up on the cotter pins quite quickly so i don't know how much trouble they could give to remove. i'll take better pics of the frame in daylight tomorrow

  • ^ Hi Carson nice one for posting that, looks like a great town bike - guess I'm after more of an old racer type of affair though so I'll pass.

By the way I saw you were looking for 27" tyres, I have a single gum wall one in good nick you can have for free, let me know if needed, it's nothing special but is in good nick

  • coolio- just got some tyres earlier this evening but thanks!

  • no worries, tyre free to anyone that reads this

  • anyone?

  • Have a 1970's French racing frame in 56cm c/top, not sure of tubing bit it's light and has Prugnat spearpoints lugs also comes with Campag. Record headset and Campag. bottom bracket would this be of interest?

  • ^ sounds interesting, only thing is I guess it means getting a french sized stem right?

  • ....easily done, I used a bit of fine emery paper below insertion height it took 5 minutes I can send over pics of the frame if you want

  • Whats your budget?

I have a 1930s (we think) E.G. Bates path racer frame, and have most of the parts needed to build it up, such as early Simplex parts...

  • have you tried graham at the vintage bike cave?? this is the sort of thing he might have.

  • Try HilaryStone.com

  • wblenkin has a path frame i think

  • I've got a number of frames that might suit: Leach Marathon 1950's; Dayton Amalgam 1950's; Pippit Plus 1961.
I also have a nice french frame for 650b wheels (well actually an almost complete bike) of the same vintage.
All of the above are around the 22" mark and fairly cheap (£50-£90 +P+P) and I also have a workshop full of parts. If you want pictures and specs send me a PM with an email address.

  • hello mate, no frame im afraid, but desperate for a cheap single 27" gumwall! the wire went on my old michelin sport, gutted..
theres a couple of path frames on the vintage bike cave site as mentioned above.. alright prices and all. Wblenkin has loads of stuff as well, also mentioned previously..

  • ^ Ernest pm me and you can come and have the tyre - stoke newington before 4.30 today or on the weekend.

Cheers for all other offers / suggestions, I've got back to some of you, the E.G. Bates sounds amazing - I used to have a Bates cantiflex, yours is possibly beyond my meagre £100ish budget though?

  • Ok yeah

  • ^^ Can you work out why your 3 posts tonight are pointless and annoying?

  • Bump ... this is exactly what I'm looking for too. Gillott really ... I'd love a 22" Gillott track/path.

  • Who wants a 1949 Hobbs Raceweight f&f, ripe for restoration?
So so light, given the age.
    It's about 22", seat c-t-c.
Another project too many / house move etc...
