Surely graphite is the way forward :)
It's brittle, but stuck on a steel or carbon frame it would actually strengthen the frame whilst provider the conductive properties.

Steel frames can flex- we've designed the frame to take advantage of that.
Something brittle would present challenges there- gold leaf is nicely flexible.
At Bespoked I did have a couple of conversations with aeronautical engineers (!) working with carbon for modern aeroplanes, they said that they were considering/testing using layers of metal foil in the CF layup to make the airframe conductive in the same way that aluminium ones are- lightning is a real issue for an airframe that does not conduct.
If you did that then there would be no reason not to use two metal layers as frame circuitry.

I can see the idea being picked-up by bigger concerns: is the idea patentable?
What consideration has been given to the durability of the circuits and have you tested what damage they can take and still function?
Why PF30 over BB30?
Doesn't using the Max TT the "wrong way" defeat it's purpose?

I really have no idea about patents, and (being an idiot, quite possibly) I'd prefer to keep moving to new iterations of the design, with improvements each time, than defend the last gen stuff.
Once the designs are complete for the connectors I'll happily email them to people so they can print their own.
Durability- I'll be racing this in the wettest climate in Europe, should give us a steer on whether it works or not.
In theory, I think it should be ok, but theory isn't a patch on testing up a mountain in the driving rain- so we'll do that.
PF30- more options, basically, and also we can ream to 45.96 whereas with BB30 we'd need to get the whole BB shell machined after brazing.
Top tube- Hampsten do it this way round, and it works well for them.

Ignoring the whole awesome conductive paint thing, I think the highlight of this build is Dammit, LFGSS' most famous weight weenie building his new number 1 bike out of steel, to ride up a mountain.
I reckon this does far more for promoting steel as a viable race bike material than the whole Madison Genesis Volare thing.

On version 2 the circuits will wrap half the tube each- you'd have to gouge round the tube for 180 degrees to break the foil.
But yes- it's a vulnerability. That said, I didn't take a spare wiring harness to Norway last time, and if I'd cut that by accident I'd be in the same boat.

Nice job. I had an inkling this was doable, I assume yours is a world first. Shame the next gen shifters will all be sending signals through the ether to one another.
What I really though is the clean lines that this and the brake cable routing permit.
