Frame/Fork Spray Paint

Posted on
  • Hello,

Can anyone recommend me what is the best spray paint and enamel to use to respray Matt and gloss frames. I was looking at Armourtex Ltd to see if they sell paint which I will call in the morning, any experiences or recommendations.

    thanks
    JF

  • The paint they use won't be usable without the proper workshop as its powdercoat which needs static to adhere to the frame and then a kiln to bake it on.
In my experience, buying paint in a rattle can and doing it yourself will add up to about £50 after primer, colour coat and gloss, will take a week to do properly, and not come close to the durability of a professional finish.
Bite the bullet ant take it to armourtex, its worth it. they will shotblast the frame too to get rid of residue from the previous finish, also not something you can do easily at home.

  • ^this.

They did an old reynolds 531 frame for me this time last year, in the region of £60 if I remember correctly. Turned it round in a couple of days, chiselled out the strange potrusions and blockages in the seat tube for free and gave me a nice discount on a BLB seat post. Many colour, much frames, such wow.

    You wont regret it.

  • I guess that, as you've asked the question, you're not trained or experienced and would second what has been written above.

If you're doing this on a commercial basis, then you should be able to negotiate a discount for regular, repeat, volume business.

    James1234 knows his paint.
