  • Amico Bio's Barbican branch is close to Farringdon, is it not?

  • Awesome thanks. I'm after something cheap and cheerful if possible. Somewhere to grab a quick burrito or thai food?

  • By the way, do we have a date for the vegan ride yet?

    Sorry if I've missed something.

And for the avoidance of doubt, here it is for the new page:

    ???
    this has

    • meet at st pauls
    • cookies n scream
    • vx
    • canal
    • gallery cafe
    • park/lake
    • ms cupcake
    • amorino gelateria in soho which does amazing sorbet roses
    • could also go nude espresso in soho, they have a big table upstairs and do some vegan cookies/things

    thoughts?

  • Can anybody really recommend something that melts (for pizza), instead of mozzarella.
I really don't miss cheese, generally (strange, because I loved it & used to eat loads), but on pizza something is missing.
This one vegan fastfood thingie here has a good soy product (for their "cheese" burgers), but I can't imagine this on pizza, both taste- and consistency wise.

Try mozzarisella, its a rice based mozzarella substitute and its absolutely amazing!

Can we postpone for a bit? I dont want to miss this but I dont know how long I will be off the bike for at this stage. Hopefully it wont be more than a few weeks, I should know more on Friday.

  • We can do more than one.

  • But I should do that South London vegan thing, as suggested.

..hmm, I almost bought this when shopping for a pizza-evening the other day!

Was really really pricey though, so I didn't risk it.

    Thanks for the info!

  • Could someone let us know when you're expecting to drop by and in what numbers?

    Many Thanks,

  • We have 'Chip Shop Thursdays' from 5-8pm at The Gallery Cafe (Bethnal Green). We cook to order and have homemade chips!

Its is pricey but its really good, the texture is really nice and melty. Amico bio use it on all their vegan pizzas.

In other news, my wrist is apparently fine so may I be so bold as to suggest we plan the vegan ride for next weekend or the weekend after?

  • Has anybody got some Dr Martens vegan boots?
    Worth the money?

  • In other news I made a huge bowl of this black bean & quinoa soup for that weekly event I'm catering vegan things for,
it was a rather big success (not only, but also because of the 'carnist' caterer did not fire up the grill due to pouring rain).

    Would definately recommend.
Will use non-tinned black beans next time, add more oregano, and also add some sweet potatoes again.

Solovair are better (still made in uk), DMs are all made in china now

  • Thanks for the info. They're even more expensive though...

Posting this again in case it was missed Lucy - unlikely to be more than 6-8 people.

I love the sound of your breakfasts!

I can do next weekend depending on timing...

I've got the shoe version. I really like them, really comfortable straight out of the box and still look pretty much new after a year and a half or so's pretty regular use.

  • Cool, thanks for the feedback.

  • Sort of SRS question - if Oyster mushrooms lure/kill nematode worms for Nitrogen, does that make them unsuitable for Vegans?

And indeed they apparently evolved from the Animal branch of life after the initial plant/animal divergance

  • after conferring with caz i think it would be easier to do a night this/next week and meet up for dinner rather than attempt to do this all in one go... unless someone wants to suggest a sunday in a few weeks?

I think if you start worrying about that you could end up a breatherian. I'm pretty sure some of the cucurbit family do something similar and kill nematodes. (I tried google and it was no help so might be wrong).

There was a report of tomatoes and potatoes (some varieties) acting as carniverous plants as well. The hairs you see on both species are able to catch insects which are then eaten (some how). Most don't tend to as they get sufficient food from other sources.

You could then think about it logically and consider how all your food is made (even if you eat organic there will be insects etc being killed). If you eat cereals most have regulated parts per million insect (and probably small mamal) content.

Then there is the damage to other animal life when this stuff is transported to your door. Squished badger, crushed insects etc.

I'm not suggesting we don't think about this but for your own sanity I'd suggest a cut of point somewhere above nematodes.

  • Further on fish sauce, I thought this was worth cross-posting:

    Veggie replacement for fish sauce?

    http://thaigrocer.com/VegAdapt.html

I haven't digested the info yet, but it doesn't look fishy.

I'm pretty sure the internet kills wildlife.
I don't know how it would do it, but my gut tells me it's true.
