The difference is that we actually won. That's the only thing that counts.
How many runners up get remembered. I cannot care less as for how we play providing we win trophies. It's all good and well playing pretty football but if it means winning nowt (e.g. Arsenal) than it means fuck all.
Serious question. What do you prefer, playing pretty football with >60% possession for the season or having a serious game plan against your direct competition and stocking up on silverware?
It depends on how you want to be remembered. The Invincibles are still talked about with reverence. Pep's Barça will be spoken about in many decades from now. How do you think your team will be spoken of? Do you care at all? Personally I'd hate to watch the dross he serves up week in week out. It's telling when you keep getting unstuck when you're up against "19th century" teams.
The other side of the duality is Wengeritis*: A refusal to look at where the game is at - on these shores- and work with it. Instead he goes the self righteous route of how it should be played and throwing toys out when things do not work out...an attitude that has seeped into the mindset of his players.
pellegrini could go in here but they have the funds. Principles be expensive.
It's been fun watching us this year but practicality rules.
