Early 90's Condor Italia project

  • 'lo all.

I recently rescued my dad's old Condor from rusting into an early grave and i've decided to get it back to roadworthy condition.

The bike was brought second hand in the mid nighties apparently from a frame builder who used to work at the store on grey's inn road. The groupset is mostly Campag mirage from what I can gather but the cranks are stronglight. Don't know a hell of a lot more about the bike, other than it appears to be a custom build. No serial numbers or anything. Any insight would be appreciated!

I've taken it to armourtex this weekend to get it powdercoated in british racing green, with white lug lining. Seems a shame to not do those nice stamps justice. Mainly going to use it to fuck around on the weekend.

    To replace:

    Pedals
Bars - Got some Nitto noodle drops that i'm gonna pop on it
    Stem
    Cables
    Casette/Chain
    Tyres

  • Good job rescuing a useful looking bike!

Apart from the cranks, the kit is mid-Eighties to mid-Nineties. Plenty of Stronglight fans, so it shouldn't be hard to track down the model: the PCD would be a good place to start. SJS are a good bet if you need new rings.

Seems a shame to refinish it: paint and chrome look like they'd respond to some T-Cut and coke & tinfoil.

Geared or converted? Noodles are lovely. What size stem do you need?

  • PS The RD is '92-'94 Record. :)

  • Thanks for the advice!

I think the chain ring and cranks are in usable condition, but thank you for the heads up. It's a rad looking chain ring, so it would be a shame to lose it!

It's probably not too clear from the pics, but the chrome had completely come off in some places and the rust was pretty bad. I like the original colours, but I'd like a bike that's going to last another 20 years even more!

Going to keep it geared, I have a charge plug for singlespeed tomfoolery, but it'd nice to do a little more long distance riding pon the weekend.

Stem wise, I think the current one is 110mm so I'm looking at getting a 80 or 90. Not sure on make yet. Probably whatever armourtex have knocking about.

And awesome! I suspected it might be a slightly mixed bag. Nice to have record on it! Fancy.

  • It's an old bike, a lovely one too, in my opinion it's a real shame to refinish it and lose it's character. A bit of autosol and fine wire wool can work wonders on rusty chrome.

    Just my 2 pence.

  • I've got some stems spare: 26.0mm bar clamp?

Probably didn't make myself clear - the chrome has actually flaked off, leaving the bare metal exposed underneath, which has rusted.

Yes indeed! Thanks for the offer, how much would you want for one and where are you based? I work in soho, but live out near Leyton if you're near either of those.

  • The only 80mm spare is black.

Not that close: posted for £15.

  • I'll probably try and get a silver one to keep it all the same, but thank you a lot for the offer!
