I guess like any trip, head for the smaller older shops that haven't been modernised, talk nice, and FFS do not mention the word vintage. I've found a few in the north west that have had bits and pieces and only let me have a good rummage through them (and then buy for very decent price) because I was buying it for myself and I could talk all 4 legs off a donkey; however same shop owners have had 'fancy boys from london asking for vintage bike parts' been sent packing, despite the shop keep sitting on a mini mountain of Suntour & Shimano porn ;) (which I then made the best of)

Thanks, very sound advice - finding the store that sells second had gear is proving pretty hard. everyone seems to be riding shiny new bikes up and down the ridiculously steep hills! no fixed or single speed here ;-)

Why not google for velodromes & racing clubs in your part of Italy, then only look for shops within say 20km of there. Also small classifieds in shop windows is probably going to lead to the best stuff (does for me in the UK).
Flea/second hand/car boots are also ideal, but as ever, you need to be there as it opens or don't bother, no middle ground. -

Im headed there in a few days, and Im hiring a bike to cycle quite a bit, anything to add? Any advice on cool bars restaurants in alba?
Thanks man.
Hey guys I am in and around Alba right now, does anyone of you have some great hints on sources of used bike parts? Looking to bring back some nice vintage stuff! Good stores in and around Alba and the vicinity, flea markets with bike stuff and the likes?
Lots of great Barolo and Barbaresco wines including truffles but done all that so now on to the bikes.
