Advice for Norway touring, Molde, July 2014

Posted on
  • I am planning a trip to Molde in July for some, hopefully awesome, bike touring. 8 days riding (plus 2 days travel) and camping linking together a few highlights including (at the moment):The Atlantic Road, Trollstigen & Ørnevegen.

We will be flying into Molde from Manc/London with the bikes and plan on staying in a B&B or hotel for the first and last nights in Molde. We will be bringing the bikes in boxes, bikeboxalan or similar, and need to work out how/where we can store them in Molde while we are off touring. Clearly the B&B/hotel is an option but I thought I’d throw it out to you guys to see if there’s another option?

Being Scandinavia and generally amazing, I’m hoping there’s a municipal bike box storage facility in every town.........failing this, any other ideas?

Please don’t suggest disposable cardboard boxes.

  • I live just outside of Oslo, not Molde. But here is the email address to the cycling club in Molde. Maybe they can help.

  • Cheers, our plans have changed a bit and we found out that you can store large items at Trondheim airport for £3 a day. As Trondheim Airport is quite a bit outside Trondheim, this will probably be cheaper than paying for a taxi to cart us and boxes into Trondheim. This way, we arrive, stay in hotel at airport, unpack bikes, walk across to airport to store boxes, cycle!

  • Enjoy!

  • Ride from Skjolden to Lom on the 55 route, takes you through Jotenheimen National Park. It is absolutely stunning.

  • Cheers for the recommendation. We'll add it to the route. Current plan was to head across north of there via Stryn. Reckon we may have time to include your road and then head up to Stryn. We're mapping it out in the next few days to look at total mileage of route vs. days available. Based on our recent Wales tour (Abergavenny-Bangor) 100km+/day should be doable.

  • That looks very Nice indeed. I love the valley roads in Norway. Not as dramatic as mountain ones, or as Scenic as Coastal ones. But the just have this amazing atmosphere, and make you feel tiny.

This is an awesome one I rode a few weeks back. Just North of Stryn. If you are visiting Geiranger, and taking the turist Ferry to/or from hellesylte. Its well Worth including.

  • Cheers! Looks great, will see if we can engineer that into the route.
