  • The only issue with going for a centre pull is that generally they don't have the requisite drop, but I bow to the superior knowledge of others on here.

I think I have a 'Lambert' badged centre pull brake you can have in fact, but I'll need to check the drop, pretty sure it'll be 42mm max unfortunately.

  • very generous of you.
If they don't usually have a big enough drop I'll probably go with a "regular" caliper then.
    Thanks for your reply.

  • Yes all dual pivot caliper brakes have a cable hanger (rear and front). The rear one is at times provided by the frame itself.

Dia Compe makes these brakes and they are easy to find. The nicest ones seem to be from Mafac which is out of business.
The cable that goes from arm to arm could be a bit hard to find, but it seems these are hard to break anyway.

Good braking power though and period correct.

  • Seems long reach to me.

It is missing the piece of metal that will pull on the cable

    I think it's called yoke ?

  • Anyway, I think I will go with these:

    (Tektro R529)

    on my Holdsworth Mistral build.

Nutted mount, long reach, brand new, nice look.

  • someone pipped me on that auction - on the last second :(

  • I've spare centre pull hangers you can have for free.

  • 57Hawkes - Thanks a lot. The steerer is 1", will it fit?
Can I paypal you the p+p?

  • Yes, all vintage for 1 inch. I've two, chrome is poor on both (been acid cleaned).
    Let me find them first...

  • This is a pic, sorry wasn't home last night to check..

  • Looks nice. Let me know if it'll reach.
    Thanks

  • Yeah, they do look short reach to me...

  • I've bought a centre pull brake on ebay, it's a 610 which I think means it has up to 61mm reach... Hopefully it will arrive in a day or so.

Here's a pic of the latest progress. Nearly there!
