Just sorted out my accomodation for me and a 'not on here' mate staying with family in Otley. I'm very excited. Apparently there's a large TV screen in the market square, probably a 32 incher or bigger but we're likely to head out of town. Otley is expecting 15-20k people along the route just in town, its going to be massive.
Word from family is there's a 'meet the teams' event in Leeds on Friday night so will go to that too.
I don't really know that part of the world, any of the LFGSS crew got any good beer and viewing spots lined up for day 1 & 2?

Not yet.
I want to ride both routes to find out what's possible in terms of watching the grand depart and then getting out to a good spot before they come past. I may even just ride to the finish and wait there.

You're going to try to beat the peloton to the finish? You get a yellow top for that.

Anybody know if they'll let people head out first thing (I'm talking 4.30am) to ride out on route to good vantage points.
I'm thinking of staying in Leeds and doing 40 miles to Kettlewell with some mates.
I know in France you can ride up in the morning before they shut the route but this is the UK and there will be little Hitlers in high viz jackets everywhere.

I was thinking the reverse of this. Once the riders and convoy have passed through, will it be ok to jump on the course and follow them down the route? What's the form for this over in France?

This has to be worth a go.
In fact.
I'm going to do it.

Dunno about TdFrance but here on ToB day the roads around here (Warburton to be precise) were restored to normal within minutes of the race passing. So unless you can ride at ~speed of pro's it'll be just like riding the route in everyday traffic.

Cambridge City Council are saying the roads will be shut until 3pm; 3 hours after the start.
Still, if enough of us did it, would it really matter if the roads were open?
Early train up to Cambridge, dick about for a bit in the start village thing they're building, watch them go off, jump on bikes, follow them down.

This is exactly what I and a couple of others did in London in 2007. As soon as the peloton passed we looked at each other, popped our bikes over the barriers and rode behind the tour riders. We got to Tower Gateway and the English plod looked quizzically at their French colleagues. Les Gendarmes grinned and waved us through. we rode over Tower Bridge, band playing, people cheering, officials saluting and Ken Livingstone smiling at us. It was fucking brilliant. -

Have a look @ the Essex part of the route. Before they reach Epping the Tour is riding through Moreton and other off the beaten track bits of Essex. See the Joy of Essex threads .
Moreton is one of the DD pub stops and I think the race should do a right turn in front of the White Hart . So watch it there and then follow it down through N Weald,Epping, Woodford and then Whipps X..

But it'll be the bit through Cambridge that will have the most atmosphere - I want to be in like BlueQuinn.

I doubt it , Moreton is the place to go.

Booked the Ilkley campsite now.
Get up and ride to Kidstones first thing on Saturday then out to Hebden Bridge Road in Oxenhope on the Sunday.
Cannot wait.

Sounds like there is going to be a good few LFGSS peeps at Ilkley, maybe we need a flag to go on our tents to indentify ourselves :)

Roads will be open to bikes so it's just a case of getting up there Friday night, camping then riding along the route until you are at a good vantage point.

Ticket prices for the team presentation have just been announced, they range from £45 to £85.
That's an increase of between £45 to £85 on previous team presentations.
Glad to see some Yorkshire traditions remain.

So what are they doing with Buttertubs? Is it ticketed or first come first served?

Cheeky fuckers. Bollocks to that.
And Buttertubs was one of the places I was thinking of watching from, but if they ticket that too thats another option blown out of the water. I'll end up watching it on telly at my aunties house with some tinnies at this rate.
We'll be in the one tent. A faded 4 man Vango force 10.
I'm not sure but I think the most they want in one tent is 4.
Have a look on the link I shared ^ there.
