to be fair, the reason it has that "awful" crankset is to keep production costs down, so they can get as many people riding cargo bikes as possible. BMX 3 piece stuff is solid and cheap.

The donkey thing is pointless. Aye it's a £500 cargobike but it's built with shit so in reality it's a £500 cargo bike frame, which isn't so special. Infact, it runs the risk of being so shit that it puts people off cargo bikes like supermarket BSOs put people off cycling.

Apart from the cranks, what else is it built with that is shit?
In reality its a 500 quid cargo bike with shit cranks.

I have ridden that bike a year ago*, the components are similar to BSO, but ride a lots better than one.
Definitely need decent v-brakes as the one on that bike flex sometime rotten, but that's the only major complaint I have about it, I do like the 3 speed gear, wheel lock, and the sizing.
*think it was an old prototype, brake look different to the plastic one on the one I rode.

Is it coaster brake or freewheel rear? If they had a cheap frame version of the donkey it would be awesome, could be the pompino of cargo bikes

Its a 3 spd nexus.

Has anyone got one of those Larryvsharry Bullets? What do you think of it? Seems like it would be a good utility bike now that I haven't got a car.

Best Long John I've ridden.
To be fair, the only other Long John I've rode is those old 70's one that's very flexy.

I'm a fan of Donky. Ben knows what time it is.

They look pretty fun/practical. Would be tempted if I had room for another, would double up nicely as a pub bike too.

Meh. How would you get all the kids from the street on that?
Got us this bad motherfucker last week.
Current record is me + 8 kids. Six in the front, two on the pannier rack.
I'm considering doing a tag team effort with a pal on it for the Dunwich Dynamo.

The brakes look like the flexy pressed plate crap that's fitted to the cheapest of Halfords bikes. They never feel good, never work as well a half decent vee brake could/should, don't balance properly, the noodles burst through the bit they sit in due to poor quality materials and they are generally fitted with shonky pads that have a flexy backbone and low quality hardware so they're difficult to adjust. Those brakes also tend to be paired with poor quality levers, weak plastic perches that bend and snap, barrel adjusters that seize and bend etc.
The seat post and stem both look like very low budget/quality items. Infact the stems look exactly like ones that were recalled when I worked for Halfords as anyone bigger than a ten year old could literally tear the top off the quill part.
There's not a single component that looks like it's been selected for any reason other than it being the cheapest possible option.
Cheap. Strong. Light. At best you get to choose two. I'd say Donky have chosen one.

Meh, this thread reminds me I need to sell my Kona Ute - though of course a long bike, not a cargo bike.

We have been using Bullitts for a few years, and I reviewed them here:

(yes, it is a repost)

At least the donky has the freewheel version of the nexus, probably the most functional and durable component on there. I emailed them and there are no plans for a frame only option.

I've read that post many times with my research. Do you ride one now?

Have had a Bullitt for the last eight months - best thing I have ever purchased - barely use the car now. Shopping, child drop off, dog walks everything seems to be centred around the bike now. Main problem is having space to keep it - we have ours in the hallway which means a sideways shuffle to get in and out of the front door...can be a little annoying when carrying other bits and pieces.

Has there been a folding/coupling bullitt? Would prob help a little with your situation. If they're doing it with the cheap ones like what I posted on the last page why not the mighty bullitt…

How high are your ceilings?
Any room to suspend the bike? -
• #672
Any room outside? I put 2 ground anchors and used a disc lock on our christiania and it's been safely locked out side in the middle of peckham for 3 years. Don't think it's very desirable, or if any theifs could actually ride it.

A bullitt is a bit more stealable than a christiana though, think I remember reading somewhere about a courier company having one of theirs nicked.
-
• #674
And a Brixton Cycles staff got their nicked too.

Did you mean this Omnium, though?
Yeah when I compare them it's definitely one of those from the bay. Like I said it felt really solid and the steering was very direct, the only thing I would change were the tyres. Definitely worth 600 and a much better finish than the donkeyshit with that awful crankset it has.
