  • I know its not obvious.

But at the same time as an employee don't treat me as someone who shouldn't be there because of your preconceptions. What ever they may be (be it assumptions that I can't afford the stuff (hence my job comment, ) or that you think I'm a thief or whatever.
Its a shop and I have a right to in and look around. Not an exclusive members club.

  • Their stuff is pricey. Feeling some of the Vulpine stuff too. Can't afford that at sale prices though for get full price. If its lasts though it is worth it. Better to buy something once that repeatedly cos its cheaper.

  • I think more a general attitude in my opinion. In the sense the company perhaps has a specific image for its brand and if you do not fit that brand image then you are perhaps looked at outwardly. Again, this is the impression I got from being in there.

Maybe it's the lack of tan lines...

In all seriousness though, as much as I like Waffa, 99% of their customers DON'T fit the image (I don't!). This is shit and I'd rather wear DHB than Wacist Waffa.

They need to do some serious firing/hiring better people.

  • Don't see the problem. Rapha looks pretty good on them.

  • The staff at the London Rapha store was a bit more welcoming than the people at Supreme. Being french I'm used to rudeness in shops anyway.

And if you think they are rude in the London Supreme store don't ever go to the NY one. They could spell CS even if it was just two letters.

I like Rapha, but Im not really their target person IMO, I think they are aiming at the older gents 30-40 that have a lot of expendable income to buy really high priced gear not the average joe like myself who will buy the gear maybe once a year and wear the fuck out it.

    Its just my option.

  • What's the general opinion on the gilets? A good bit of kit or are there others out there (less pricey) that are worth considering? Was windy and cold this morning so I think it might be time to invest in one.

Honestly gilets are just a bit of semi waterproof material - they don't have to have the wicking properties of jackets because they are naturally ventilated. I had a Rapha gilet given to me, it was nice but absolutely no different to my champsys-made club gilet ( cost £30), or the £15 hi-viz Craft one I bought for night rides.

Things that Rapha make which are worth the money: bibs bibs bibs, softshell, wind jacket and merino socks. Everything else can be bought from competitors of similar quality for considerably less money.

I'm sure they like your money too.

  • For the record, it is one thing to say that the staff are aloof or rude, it is something COMPLETELY different to accuse them of being so based on the colour of someone's skin. It's a pretty serious accusation.

  • ^^^ Have you tried the M&S merino socks?

  • Does anyone here have access to Imperial Works bibs? What's the MSRP price? Any real pics out there? I'm trying to get my hands on a pair. And any IW jersey that goes with it?

  • Why do you so desire the IW stuff? It is the same as the other products, just different colour or trim and tends to cost the same as normal items.

  • Why not?

  • Sounds like you want to look like you've spent a lot on Rapha without spending a lot on Rapha...

If you're too poor, then it's not for you.

  • I am amused that you want to buy something yet don't even know what it looks like!

  • Rapha, nice but a bit exclusive.

  • ^^^ Have you tried the M&S merino socks?

Or the on-one ones that are 3 for £5 in the sales :)

  • Actually you're correct, I've only ever posted in this thread on this community board. I found it in passing on a brand that I enjoy and there's good info on this thread.

I like the fact that u took the time in ur day to sit on your computer to research my user name to find out my posting trends :)

I'm sure u can find more on google

  • the new pro mitts are so good that I just got them in pink, yellow and black...
next I think will be the pink pro jersey :)

The shop staff would know better than anyone else that Rapha customers are hugely varied and don't conform to the marketing ideal of what they are, they'll be used to all sorts of people wandering in who may not look 'Rapha' at all and dropping a grand on new kit. And they'll be happy about that because it's making the company money and getting more people wearing it.

If you were wearing lots of Rapha then they should have treated you even better since that indicates you're already a customer and have probably got the money to buy more of it. I highly doubt that your skin colour made any kind of difference and it's a bit shitty to accuse the entire brand of being racist just because you had a negative experience in the shop that almost certainly wasn't remotely related to your race. Most of the staff I've met have awesome customer service skills and will happily launch into really deep and detailed explanations of products if asked.

  • I took a t shirt back to kentish town once. They were all quite normal and really rather plesant

  • All the Rapha people I've met have even been nice to DJ. And that takes some doing.

  • Don't see the problem. Rapha looks pretty good on them.

I bet the one on the right has to size up for pro-team jerseys....
