also thinking about losing the dura ace 16t and opting for a 17t cog for a 48/17 combo...and it will snug the back wheel a bit closer to the seat tube without having to resort to a half link

Yes. Most definitely do this. 48/16 brakeless will ruin your knees. Plus 1 skid patch can >>>

Ran with 48/16 during the summer which caused some temporary pain/ache in my right knee. Would not recommend.

/GREAT frame though, silver seatpost matches. Dont go black, too boring.
