**Gitane Rat/Beater for sale for cheaps, for life **
Yes fam! so much steel, so very yeah, skinny tube etc.
Perfect fakenger prop... you have sensible job steady income/mortgage/life assurance etc? When you stand astride this fixiebiek drinking redstripecan on street corner everyone think you dangerous/sexee messengerman - no tattoos required
(If nobody shows her your gopro vids of epic RLJ, your mummy need never know).
Back-story: F&F kindly donated free-of-charge by Dry as part of his bike rationalisation back in January.
I was making mess of pretty biek with everyday beaterthrashing so I gratefully accepted & built radfixeh-type beater.
Since then I've covered 100+miles per week on this. all good, much fun, big skidz.
I'm in the middle of a big building project and thought budget under control till the gasboard requested £3k to move meter - WTF?
Needing to raise funds, plundered parts-bin for shiny vintage-bits, sold some cameras, flogged-off all original victorian doors - still insufficient dosh, so rad-fixiebiek goes
Obvious question.. how do you sell something you got free of charge you scabby cheapskate?
Answer, only sell the bits I added - Yes Fam - super cheaps - buy my bits at cost price, get frame free...
Spec as follows...
Frame & Forks: Gitane Super-skinny Lugless Steel - a well executed conversion with decent quality track-ends, braze-on's neatly removed & rear brake-mount filled with braze so it look like real-life-proper-tarkbiek
All original decals, paintwork comensurate with age, big tyre clearance to front, but things nice and tight at the rear-end.
Seattube C-C: 56cm
Toptube C-C: 57cm
BB Height: 28cm
(A common problem with conversions is the BB height, this ain't bad - I've never grounded pedal riding proper-rad with 170mm cranks - you'll be safer than me with 165mm cranks currently fitted).
Bits:
Headset: OG chrome - not wildly brilliant but threads/diameter are all sexy and french - difficult to replace, but ladies will love you, so on balance I think you'll like.
Rear wheel: Rigida Flyer semi Aero rim on Novatech ISO Bolt-on Hub with HighPath/Chris Bell 20T bolt-on disc-cog, Vittoria Zaffiro 25mm tyre, & custom machined spacers in gold.... mmm nice
Front wheel: Mavic Cosmos (Kyserium hub radially laced to Open Pro?). with Continental Travel-Contact tyre and track-legal allen-key bolt-on instead of quick release - yum.
Pedals: Maillard Aero (CXC)with Nylon Clips/straps - Apologies, I took these off and left them under my desk at work - I'll pick them up on Tuesday - rest assured that they're radasfook
Chain: KMC crap - new at the time of build (1000miles ago) - I bomb hills brklz daily on this, but I have a extraordinary devotion to the Madonna del Ghisallo. If you're agnostic/atheist you'll probably need a better chain for brklz
Bars/grips: Superwide (56cm) and pretty much brand-new charge spit risers with domey-dildo-type endplugs & Specialized mtb grips that prevent damaging vehicles when you get widged
Stem/aheadconvertor: 12cm ITM Eclypse stem (so elegant, so rad, so much win) Feel like a continental pro (ca. 1994).
Fits chic french fork diameter by means of a cunning lathe-turned ahead/quill converter, originally made by Deda, but modified by my machinist-chum Vincent to fit curious 22.0 steerer.
Seatpost & Chair: Beatertastic Turbo Suede sat atop a specially machined (again by machineshopVincent) 24.8mm Black Microadjust seatpost (started out at 25.4). Turbo's were the choice of the blaireau himself (Hinault), this particular one is a bit rough - I'm sure there's a badgers-arse joke in there somewhere....
Other bits: Nothing really apart from an Iride Modena sticker (so cosmopolitan) on the seattube featuring a charming portrait of the fixiefamous Matteo Zazzera (who?)
No doubt you're all champing at the bit and wanting to know how much this costs so you can buy it, strip it down and send it to armourtex for sweet babyblue coatings or rattlecan fadez....
Bill is as follows.
Frame/Forks/BB/Headset/Euroman sticker - £Nuffink
Wheels + Tyres + Cog - £65 (£20 for front wheel. £15 for rear wheel £20 for spacers + replacement rear axle + 20T cog. £15 for front A/K bolt + tyres + innertubes + rim-tape)
Chainset + Pedals + Chain - £15
Bars + Stem + Ahead convertor** - £35 (£5 for bars and grips, £10 for stem, £10 for Deda adaptor, £10 for machining)
Seatpost** & Saddle £15
*Total £135 **
*If you think it's too much state your reasons below and I'll tell you to sod off if you're wrong and make appropriate reductions if you're right (I'm a reasonable, peace-loving man).
If you think it's too cheap, make up the difference with a donation to this marvelous forum or one to your favourite charity...
Alternatively, make up the difference with a random act of kindness, e.g. buy a pack of Amber Leaf and next time you see a homeless person trying to light a pavement dog-end, hand over the baccy....
**Costs for stem & seatpose include costs for machining obscure diameters (apologies fam, price to pay for precision machining, funding UK Plc, and keeping these crafts alive...)
Dibs & PM's to register interest.
Post below if you've any queries/comments, or indeed if you have better (& hopefully more healthy) ideas for random acts of kindness
I'm in town on Thursdady evenings (mostly South/West/Central) - can do handover then.
If Thursday evenings no good, collection can be made from agreeable locations between Swinley forest and Hampton (Ascot, Staines, Windsor etc).
Don't think I can really be arsed to post this or make extra-special trip to your house in Chingford/Penge etc unless you have persuasive arguments to convince me otherwise.
