While I'm on the weird things in running is how / why Run Dem Crew, a friendly and welcoming club operates a waiting list system to get in? I'm not sure many other running clubs do. That is aside from the corporate sponsorship so Nike can pat themselves on the back.
nike provide the premises where it meets and probably subsidises the shirts when they're printed but asides from the owner giving nike some love on social media it's not the nike sales pitch you think it is.
and the wait list is because they're currently getting 220 people turn up to the tuesday run and I can tell you first hand there's no more room at the inn. when I registered 250 new people turned up that evening to do the same, in addition to the existing members who had re-registered in advance.
it's easy to be cynical about these things and I'm usually the first person to do so but it is exactly what it says on the tin. you only have to go there and see some of the people who are running solely because that crew exists and you can see it can only be a good thing.
