  • how does this work with daylight saving time?

That's why you should have a GMT subdial of course!

  • That's why you should have a GMT subdial of course!

Then you point the hour hand at the sun and the GMT 24hour hand points north.

  • Sleeping with your watch on is retarded, unless you're camping in the great outdoors or on a black ops mission...

  • always on black ops mission

  • How can you be truly naked with a watch on? PM me.

  • What exactly is the issue with sleeping with your watch on? How else do you marvel at your lume and tell the time in the middle of the night?

  • What exactly is the issue // and tell the time in the middle of the night?

The only time I remember not sleeping with a watch on was when roughing it on a beach in the south of France many years ago. The "bottom of your sleeping bag" trick for valuables had been seen to by thieves with knives who slashed the toe end to collect the goods. I buried my watch in a plastic bag underneath me.

  • Joes just incite a riot. This is one of those 'you either do or you dont' situation a.

  • Many misplaced vowels and consonants arguing.

  • Don't think I posted this but here's a link to what I've been wearing and enjoying again the past few days. A Vietnam military issue Benrus from 1969:

I have that exact watch! I think mine is a '71.

  • I have that exact watch! I think mine is a '71.

If it's the same model it will give month / year and a whole tonne of other data on the back of the case.

  • Thanks. Will try and post a photo at some point. Mine may be the GG-W-113 pilot's version, but it looks exactly the same.

  • nice, Van.

    I love the Benrus 1.

  • Much nicer than the Moray.

  • hate to say it,but i like that

  • Just been talking to a colleague that she used to work at a high end watch retailer...

She says if you walk into a store knowing what you want and are ready to put your money where your mouth is you should be able to negotiate a discount of up to 20% off the RRP... Because she got commission on sales she'd do this all the time to ensure the money went in the till...

    Just sayin'...

  • Ejay...if I walk into one of your shops with my mouth full of tenners would I get a discount or thrown out?

  • haggling for watches in a proper watch shop is expected, and not new

    cash is king

  • Just like any business really. If a client is willing to pay me before the job I'd be happy to give a discount.

  • Yeah, I know it's not earth shattering news or anything but it was interesting to hear that straight from the horse's mouth...

Surprised me, didn't know there was any sort of room for haggling. Shame I can't negotiate a steel Rolex Sub down to it's actual value of a couple of grand

  • Even if that horses mouth is full of money.

I normally offer 20% off for half up front and half on completion to spec.

This is useful info though. I'm not the kind of chap who often frequents the interiors of high end watch shops. When the day comes that I walk in to make my dream purchase I'll have cash on my hip but likely feel quite intimidated.
