I stumbled upon a lovely LBS in San Diego which actually had a larger women's selection than mens. (Granted, it had a small selection for both), but chatting with the owners, providing a better selection for women seems like it was something they were quite passionate about. http://www.mjscyclery.com/
So I picked up a part of crop trousers from them, from a company called Zoic. They are similar in style to the Swre 3/4 length trousers, but in a more lightweight fabric. There are some clever touches, such as adjustable tabs for fitting the waist, and expandable bottoms (for those of us who have giant calves). Unfortunately I seemed to fall somewhere between small and medium, so I went for the medium, and a little bit of trouble with them slipping down when I wear padded shorts underneath, but they seem to stay in place when I'm just wearing them on their own. Overall, I'm quite happy with them.
