  • New To Me - Though Not To LFGSS

OK so I am waiting for all these bits to arrive but I have bought a wheel and some cranks.

    Markairsy1's frame

A Zeus hub in a 24" Wolber rim from Ebay thanks to an LFGSS tip from Big H

and a set of Campagnolo Record Pista cranks (New Old Stock and looking immaculate) from Benjybars

Probably too much to hope for a matching rear wheel (Zeus large flange / Wolber tub)? Guess I'm going to have to try and find some matching tub tyres in 700 and 600 as well.

I will need some pointers on saddle stem and bars as I know bugger all about road bikes and even less about track bikes - except I know I saw this frame and felt serious lust for it. I told my wife it was taste but she says its just acquisitive dementia. Probably correct.

  • taste….acquisitive dementia.

    not mutually exclusive

  • What model Wolber rim (and tub) are you after? I have a profil 18 (32h) and tub that will be spare soon...

  • I'm not sure - like I said above I know very little about tubs. The seller described the front one as a "Wolber profile". it is due to arrive tomorrow so perhaps I can tell you more after that.

  • I think I was this far from trying to snipe that frame when it was first on fleabay - it's lovely. Look forward to seeing it built.

  • The frame and forks have arrived, beautifully packed and in almost as good condition as I was expecting. The colour is fantastic. Hopefully the front wheel might arrive this afternoon too.

  • The front wheel has arrived. The tyre is us (but I knew that) but the Zeus hub and grey Wolber Profil 18 rim are in great order. Bars+stem, saddle+post and a rear wheel and I will have everything I need.

  • The Profil 18's are great rims - very tough and hard wearing and surprising light.

  • Much envy on this, I would have bought it if I didn't already have a ridiculous bike I hardly ride in the cellar...

  • Just bought a Zeus Seat post for it and have seen a nice Zeus crankset for not a lot of money - I have bought a Campag one already but maybe a bike with all Zeus would be something a little different - I could always use the Campag set on my Rossin.

  • Oh yes just to add I now have a 24 hole Wolber Profil 18 rear and one of these hubs - now I just need to see if I can find a matching 600 and 700 pair of tubs (preferably gumwall) a stem and some bars and we will be ready to build)

NOS Zeus 24 hole rear hub! Has QR skewer but it is 24 hole and if I do not find a track hub I am pretty sure a bit of work on my lathe will convert this one.

  • Enigmatic repped for hopefully going full Zeus!

Good luck finding a rear Zeus track hub in less than 32 hole, I've seen none and they will no doubt be a small fortune.
Full Zeus will look the part though, will keep my eyes peeled for a BSC bottom bracket for you :-)

  • Thanks Big H.

Hillary Stone has these bars. Not sure of the era though.

  • lovely bike

  • Big H - did Zeus make quill stems?

  • Zeus did but they are also very rare, one was on ebay a while back for about £120 quid and they guy didn't want to accept any offers.

Those bars would look booom though. Im thinking the tempos wrapped in benotto dark blue tape maybe? Im gonna get them Cinelli la84s if you dont mind!

  • I preferred the shape of the LA84s but decided against the ones at HS as they have been squashed a bit when they had some aerobars clamped on.

That Zeus stem is way too dear - I can easily get a 3ttt stem and panto Zeus and Spain on it myself!

Still thinking about the other bullhorns at HS - not sure about the colour, might start to look a bit busy with silver hubs, cranks, stem and post, grey rims and whatever bluey gunmetally colour you would call those bars.

  • OK I bought the HS bars - if they don't look right I can swap them out easy enough. Now to find a stem - I quite like the look of the titanium grammos.

  • I fancied this I got the perfect wheels for this. Can't wait to see this built

  • ^this

  • Zeus crankset might suit.

  • Yes please get that!!!!

If you dont I will :-) Just make sure its the track version not the converted road ones.

  • I already grabbed it - but there is often stuff on that site and it is often cheaper than on here, ebay etc. Sometimes it is a ball ache because the seller won't do Paypal and if it is not an expensive bit then the only other cheap form of payment is to send cash or call on a local contact to go and get it for you.

I have seen some cheap bikes on there though - there was a very nice Sancineto complete for only a bit more than I paid for my frame just after I bought mine. Sold very quickly.
