  • I do agree with this, but the reason I'm fretting about it is because I'm supposed to be riding on the continent in, ooh... four week's time? ish, with a group, and I'm not going to be very popular if I'm crawling along at 5mph and deciding after 20 miles that I quite fancy going home now plz. I'm going to be anxious about this anyway so I'd prefer to do something concrete to improve the situation a little quicker but without going insane over it.

    Luckily I'm far too fat and lazy to ever push myself too hard, so I should be ok.

    How much fitness do you think you can build in 4 weeks?

    How much harm do you think you can do to your sickly organism in 4 weeks?

    You could get some fitness but if you drill yourself and you fall apart before you even get there...

    And by riding I assume you mean in a social context as opposed to racing or even training, in which case the bunch should regroup at the top of any climb and ride at the pace of the slowest rider. Or, just go out solo.
