There are lots of the types of lanes you mention, mostly on the main roads, a couple that are segregated for a very short while, but also plenty that don't last long in either capacity and deliver you into pinch points with no lane of your own.
My knowledge of the Barton Hill area isn't great but I do remember a couple of short cuts with a designated NCN route. Also a massive dual carriageway/flyover with no provision at all from what I recall.
