• It has it's moments, 2 in particular spring to mind, but Will and Jim will tell us for sure (they practically live out there).

  • From Memory;

Two gravely sections at the bottom of decents. One road which is due to be resurfaced, and thus has loads of gravel. One or two shitty road roads through Forests which are shot.

  • Was fine last year on 23mm

    Htfu etc

  • I have only ever ridden it on 23mm gatorskins.

  • Is the worry over punctures or crashes?

Punctures I can't help you with, you'll have to decide if your tyres are tuff enuff.

Crashing is something I can try and help with. We know where the sketchy segments are, I will try and moderate the pace and give warning of impending doooom where I can, but if you ride sensibly and keep 'em peeled there should be no problems on this route.

  • Could be tempted by this.
What's the plan for those who are riding out? Are you riding back aswell?

  • There is normally a sizeable group riding back with many North Londoners who train out joining the ride back. This also means that there are train tickets back going for free to anyone who ride out but wants to train back.

  • Thanks for leading us out so well, monw, and all who rode for a really great ride last wednesday. I had so much fun.

    Yeah Iove dynamos. Sue me.

  • If anyone really wanted to they could ride out with me, but it's not really ideal as I detour via home in Enfield and am always running late and in a rush. The ride back from Potters Bar to Enfield is marvellous and I won't be missing that.

  • cheers for adding me to the bedwetting list.

potters bar to e. ldn is especially easy and mostly downhill. A111 through Cockfosters, at Southgate roundabout 3rd exit. then left at Aldermans Hill & right onto Green La. boom!

  • Just a note on the ride out trains. My view is that it is better to ride out solo or in pairs at the most. London rush hour traffic is not the place to be playing follow the leader. With all the distractions inherent in a trip through town I would rather be free to concentrate on what's happening around me than have to divert my attention to others I'm traveling with.

Putting yourself on the ride out list is just a declaration that you're getting there under your own steam, it doesn't mean you'll get your hand held all.the way to the start. If you don't know the way and aren't confident that you can navigate it yourself just come on the train with the cool kids, we have way more fun anyway.

Riding back is much less of an issue as the traffic is lighter, but still, don't presume, ask.

  • AirTime are you taking the canal out to PB? Could be potentially convinced to ride out since I'm foolish and have a short memory.

  • Wait! There's a canal?

  • Smartass.

  • The ride back in to town is infinitely more fun than the ride out on this one.

So I shall be riding home, at a clip.

  • the ride back in to town is infinitely more fun than the ride out on all of these...

    ftfy

  • The ride home is infinity more fun, period. I floated the idea of stopping at Pappagone on the way home, but other members of WNKondorRapha said no.

  • haha WNKondorRapha.

there is no canal that i know of that leads to potters bar!

  • You can ride the canal to say Broxbourne, then scoot over to the route quite easily?

  • Canals were obsoleted by the railways

  • I will be getting the train there and back as a matter of principle.

  • Only riding back if feeling stupid, and the main ride finishes fairly early.
