Wanted: Cheap double crankset, 27" rear wheel

Posted on
  • Hi all, I finally found a touring bike, actually just a frame, now I just need some parts. They have to be cheap and to suit a 1961 light tourer

    Looking for:

Double square taper crankset like a stronglight 80 etc.
27" rear wheel only (not steel rim)

    Thanks!

  • I have this double crankset very good condition, 170 arms.
    £19

If you need a spare saddle, the red one is a Concor copy £7.
The black is a Specialized, a bit battered but you can have it for a spare.
    Post about £4 I imagine ?

  • Hey Chris,
My bikes from the 60's so they're a bit too modern otherwise I'd have gone for them

  • EDIT

I have a 170mm Red S fluted drive side crank which is an very nice stronglight 99 copy, 86mm BCD, comes with an unbranded right side that has the remnants of an alloy dust cap emdebbed in the threads. Pedal thread is okay and the taper is fine, you could probably scribe the bits out but it's useable, just a pain to extract the non drive (I use copper slip personally on any contact points and with a drift/mallet it is doable)
£15 posted anyway (£12 collected from Letchworth)

Had a look in the garage and only got some very bruised (read steel and knackered) 27" rears but I have a very decent condition Alesa wheelset with a 126mm Shimano Uniglide hub and 6 speed 13-30 uniglide cassette. These have been completely cleaned/polished, hubs regreased/adjusted and spin up nicely for the type with no play/grittiness, solid axles front & rear. The uniglide spins particularly nicely and is virtually unworn and has been fully cleaned also. The rims are in great condition with not much wear
Down side is that the spokes are galvanised (but aren't rusted), couple are loose so the rear needs trueing up
£45 posted for them, take the cranks as well and say £10 on top.

  • Haven't picked up the frame yet but guessing somewhere around 120, I'll give you a buzz later in the week if thats ok

  • Nice one Dazaa for the cranks, they polished up well!

Just found out that I need a 120 OLN rear wheel, its an old bike that needs a 5 speed really so think I'll pass on the Alesa wheels, bargain that they are.

    Ah OK, no probs. :)
