Looked at them. Well built etc?
yep very; would recommend. They now have all Kinlin rims too.

Any direct comparisons between a23s and the kinlin they do - xr300?
-

I'll take them off your hands, do you a favour like.
No probs.
I'll just need your bank account details and home address as well as when you're likely to be out, you know to verify where and when to deliver them..

They have the Kinlin XC279 which is a 23mm wide road rim as you can see here: http://www.bikehubstore.com/category-s/162.htm
Its about 40 grams heavier than A23.

I know loads of people racing on and raving about Campag Zondas. The spoke count is weird and I think I might wreck them at 90kg, but they're light and not bad value. 1550g I think.
They come with a Shimano free hub. I know some people would baulk at running Campag wheels with a Shimano groupset, but good wheels is good wheels.

A bit of wheel indecision at he moment, hoping for some inspiration from the hive mind.
I'm looking for some reasonably robust/comfy wheels. I had previously considered novatecs to archetypes, but fancy treating myself to some slightly 'blingier' hubs....Does anyone have any experience with the Stans Alpha 400 hope hoops? (mono RS hubs)
I'm also considering DT Swiss 350s to archetypes (the star ratchet system sounds interesting) or ultegra 6800 hubs to grey Tb14 rims (inspired by the wheels on dammit's serotta). -

I've got some system ex hubs built to archetypes with cx ray spokes on my track bike and they're a great set of wheels. Sam who runs the workshop is a big fan of the road bike equivalent of ambrosio hubs on archetypes with cx ray spokes, he even races on them.

Ambrosio hubs are ace and easy to service

DT350 are pretty good too.

As are 6800.
(this probably isn't helping)

What deficiency in Novatec hubs are you hoping to rectify by using something else?

Lack of blinginess?

dealer/source/price? ^

I'm not suggesting anybody should actually buy them, just that Novatec have a wide range, some of which are 'blingy'
-
• #2793
lol ok; I am loving my novatec hubs atm; a bling option would be nice
-

Thank you for all the comments - it looks as though any of the options i'm considering would be suitable/don't seem to have any major deficiencies. Time for another think before taking the plunge.

Also, if you don't mind spending a bit more on tyres, get a Stans No Tubes kit and some Schwalbe Ultremo ZX tubeless tyres and enjoy very quick and grippy tyres without worrying about punctures and never having to buy more inner tubes.
-
• #2796
Are they actually worth 3x the price of normal tires?
-
• #2797
Well I used Ultremo ZX tyres for a while and got at least one puncture each time I took them out on a decent length ride, but kept them on because they roll so nicely. I've tried many different tyres and the ZX were my favourite, so put the tubeless versions on my road bike in October and they feel just as quick as the standard clincher versions but I haven't had a single puncture on them.

I have Ultremo DD; 1000+ miles and no puncture but if I wanted to go ZX tubeless can I do it on any rim or does it have to be tubeless specific?
-
• #2799
^^ were you getting pinch flats or a mix?
-
• #2800
Either a tubeless rim or any rim with the stans tubeless kit as it has a think kind of rim tape that seals it.
No pinch flats, just anything even slightly pointy was going through them. Often on straight roads with no pavement for me to stand on while repairing it.
Just ordered some too good for my level ultegra's to match too good for my level bike
