  • j'suis conflicted.

It's hard to know what to suggest until you tell us which races you're riding and where you think you're losing them.

  • I like clinchies tho SF!

Surely the comfort of increasing tyre width is much more noticeable on the front than the rear?

Also, how much do they weigh? If I could get some wide, aero clinchers to about 1600-1700g and under £1k, I'd be well happy.

    3T Accelero 40's are 1750g, 23mm wide and £339

  • The Comfort comes from the PSI. You can run the same PSI on a front 23mm, as a rear 25mm.

    Roughly.

Hongfu do my exact rims in clincher format The braking surface is very good. I've done a few mountain descents on mine, and can see no evidence that they've been cooked. But that was without a 110 PSI clincher pressing the hot braking surface outwards at the same time.

  • I need to replace my ksyriums asap.
Got ultegra groupset and was told to get ultegra wheels (ribble is doing them for around 220£ atm).
Is there anything else i should consider? I don't mind spending a bit more if it's worth it.

  • What are you looking for? Aero or weight weenie?

  • I don't know. Why would i need aero?
Something to use all year round.

Interesting. Has anyone seen any aero data for 'em? They'd almost definitely be a cheap improvement over my Ksyriums.

Well, Cat 5 and Regents Park Strava dick measuring at the moment, but I intend to start racing crits* at some point this year. I'm light enough that my climbing is fine, but I've always suffered in the wind. I realise this is more about training, but fuck it; I want shiny stuff.

*in London, so Hog Hill and Hillingdon, mostly. Would also like to have a crack at the SERRL races at some point.

  • A newer rim that has been getting lots of good reviews is the Pancenti SL23. Does anyone have some feedback on it? 24mm wide, 27mm deep. Approximately 1550gr per pair depending on hubs. They are not particularly cheap but much cheaper than HEDs with a very similar profile.

Novatec on A23 is pretty decent value for money or swap with ultegra hubs; I just got a wheelset built from this place: http://www.spokesmanwheels.co.uk/

They also have an ebay shop: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Spokesman-Wheels?_trksid=p2047675.l2563 But you will get 6% discount if you order directly.

  • The Ultegra hubs are great, in my experience.

Shimano WH-RS31 is fine for road racing at your level, spending more won't really acheive anything apart from a sense of loss when you smash them in the inevitable last corner pile up. Ksyriums have such shit aeros that pretty much anything will be a massive improvement.

The Pacenti is £97.99 and the HED rims retail at £90-100 (depending where / if you can get hold of them).

So true. If you can't afford to crash it, don't race it. If you can't win races on cheap clinchers, you're still not going to win them on carbons ££££. (as tester said to me before)

But if you're rich, get some midsection carbons. Clinchers with latex tubes, unless you want to be poncy and have tubs.

  • Yes but Yodel.

    ('nuff said)

  • Depends what you're trying to comfort.
On a road bike, the weight distribution is about 60:40 in favour of the rear, which is why the usual differential tyre set up is fat on the back.

    Also for the aeros.

LIke big butts and you cannot lie..

Did you mistake LFGSS for cyclingnews?

I wouldn't buy anything new until you've actually finished a few races and think it's something you want to continue. Then you can work out what's actually best. Otherwise you'll just be buying twice.

  • last corner pile up.

Over here Cat 4 doesn't even seem to need a corner for that.

Can you stop giving rational advise and tell me to buy firecrests?

  • Meilenstein ride nice. Only carbon wheel I ever rode.

I've got a set of Powertap 404s gathering dust at home.. I know nothing about rational. #doasisaynotasido
