Well I finished Dark Souls 2. Took a long time. I missed killing 2 people. Unfortunately they're the most difficult challenges in the game so I now have to face them on NG+.
Nice one!
It is a great game. Been playing over this week. In someways it isn't as dark and dank as the first game. Movement and fighting is lighter and the world map with transporting between areas from the ofset means there is less trudging around which perversely I don't like as much. Part of the appeal of DS1 is the profound loneliness and frustration, fighting the same respawning hollows over and over again, just to die and repeat. In DS2 after 12 attempts the enemies disappear which makes some things easier.
Multiplayer too is better in DS2. You can summon help when hollow which again makes things easier and such fun cooperative fighting bosses
It does look spectacular. Seems to have more varied areas though the vertical and coherent map of DS1 was amazing, knowing that you can access, on foot (or by flying creatures) everywhere without bonfire transportation.
With the improved NG+ which makes replaying very different from the first run through, and the varied character types and weaponry, I imagine spending little money on other games this year. there seems so much more to find in DS2 and also more sense of a community jointly discovering the joys a perils of the land.
The lore/story is still vague and largely irrelevant to the gameplay and, like real life, trying to find meaning in what is essentially tough and meaningless is futile.
10/10
