  • Does anyone know a good mechanic who specialises in SRAM? A mate has a bike with Apex which he got off this forum that just doesn't seem to be able to get right. Front chainring just doesn't seem to work properly...

  • Might help to state if any part of London is preferred. I have had Krisz at Cyclelab just off Old Street roundabout sort out my SRAM, been happy with him. I don't know if he is a `specialist' or not, but he got mine shifting properly.

  • Somewhere between W1 and Ealing would be nice but Old St ain't too bad

  • front mech shifting on Apex and Rival is notoriously bad. I have also always found all SRAM road front mechs a real PITA to set up generally.

  • Wrong Dan, it's actually old Red that was shit. Everything else was OK-but-not-as-good-as-Shimano

Kehng: Bring it over to mine in Paddington and I'll get it going. PM me.

We have every road SRAM going, all set up sweetly, even on Cannondale's lightest (ahem, crappiest) chainrings.

  • Not the case IME - though I've never used an old Red mech - only used Force on a Red setup and Force on a Rival setup as I was advised it was the best solution. I think I will probably get better results by moving to a Shimano 10 spd front mech to be honest.

  • definitely considering it for my Gf's bike as she really struggles with the lever throw to get the chain in the big ring.

  • When I got my bike (force 20) the shop said to hold the lever in place a little longer than you'd think when going small -> big.

After a while it started dropping the chain shifting big -> small, so I downloaded the SRAM instructions and used them to set it up, which was a huge improvement! Instant shifting (ie. it shifts as you push the lever, not after) and no rub.

  • definitely considering it for my Gf's bike as she really struggles with the lever throw to get the chain in the big ring.

Chainring choice makes a big difference too. I have an Apex mech shifting an ultegra 6700 road double. It's smooth as butter.

  • My front Apex mech is absolutely crappo too.

  • Groupset thread >>>>

Point is I can make it shift nice. Bring it to me!

  • My rival front mech takes some effort to get going now I think about it

  • Howard, where exactly are you located? Is it a shop? My office is in Paddington.

  • Just down the road in Little Venice. Nope, not a shop, just a privateer. PM me if you want to arrange something.
