• Im not interested in a Dos,but if you like it thats fine ;)

  • I think you will be very disappointed. You say you are looking for a track frame with a 400 Euro budget. Then add photos of a wide variety of bikes, most are polished track turds (crap frames covered in expensive components).

The only true track frame set there is the Planet X, but how will you build it? Will it be with cheap components? it seems so with your 400 Euro budget. The rest of the components will cost far more than the frame (a HED 3 certainly does) and you don't mention anything about them. Also you seem have actually forgotten to actually ask a question. What is it you actually want to find out with this thread?

  • planet x right now is bonkers cheap at £199 so definitely buy that.

and the matching fork at £49

Also it's not totally shit like your other options

Only want to know wich is the best frame all these.I haven`t said to be build with hed or cheap wheels,my doubts are with the frames.

I don`t want to spend the value of a cinelli frame for example, there is something wrong?

    Thanks.

  • Looking to build a cheap/ good value fixed wheelset, so:

    Hubs - Planet X On-One single fixed
Spokes - For now looks like Sapim race spoke
Rims - amrosio exursion vs Mavic A119

Any better suggestions in this price range (with brake surface)? Obviously, A119 rim is wider which I like, but Ambrosio comes with anodized flanges. I am in favor of silver Mavics for now.

  • I like these two but I don't know if the Colossi is worth the $150 extra, I don't know much about prestige tange etc on the Soma.

  • personally, I'd buy the Soma. Columbus Zona's not incredible, but mainly because of these two builds

  • But is tange actually better than zona with lugs?

  • The bike I'm on now is "ok" but I have that upgrade/build itch and find myself looking at new stuff. I'm wondering what will make the biggest difference(for the better) in my ride. At the moment I can sort of feel where dunlop cut corners everywhere.

    A) frame
Going from the cheap pile of heavy junk dunlop thing I have to either a dolan(pre cursa or the next one up) or I really like the green. Will likely mean new forks too as the white ones I have won't go well.

    B) wheels
I have to admit I don't know a huge amount about wheels, can swap them and replace spokes but really that's about it, generally speaking decisions I have made are purely based on price so thats a cheap wheel thats an expensive wheel and so not always quality. Seem to be good reviews of vspirit wheels(?) and I remember a forum code somewhere so a set of them maybe or am I looking at a much of a much for everything between the cheap junk I have now and tri spokes and things?

    C) other/both
Could probably squeeze to a full build with a dolan pre cursa and a cheap wheelset but would I just be taking a shortcut that will cost me later.

  • Hi,

the dolan pre cursa is a good starter frame to build or you could also try to source a few other frames for example a Matt black unbranded frame or a leader frame from BLB. With wheels you could replace the spokes, on our next build were are using a snowflake pattern on the front wheel but we main like to use deep v rims ranging from 40 to 50mm

Matt black unbranded frame? I want to avoid carbon if that's meaning one of the generic carbon track frames, I treat my bikes like crap and don't have the time to be checking for cracks. Wouldn't go as far as calling them all beaters but they pretty much are.

Can't say the BLB frames catch my eye as much, rather keen on the thicker looking tubes, did think maybe getting a lo pro style bike but is rare I see one in I like enough to want to own.

The current wheels are deep but not v deep, like an inch of rim after the brake surface. To be honest I'm more interested in the wheel being strong and long lasting atm as I use it to ride to work and back(6 miles each way) and then to the shops most nights(10-20 miles more). The wheels can look like shit and so long as they ride mile after mile after mile it's all good.

  • Are you looking mostly at single speed/ fixed or road? for a road bike I recommend the viking series, it is a budget/starter road bike but it gets the job done. I used the viking peloton for 1 year doing 20+ each day, 4 times a week and only had to replace a puncture once. I was completely reckless with it by skidding, shallow pothole run overs and very high curb jumps.

    Fixed/SS hence the forums...

  • Have been looking some more and found some visp frames but price is similar to the dolan. Any other frames in the low end but ok catagory to look at?

  • The tokyo fixed dart is probably just about the right side of cheap.

  • I'm thinking red dolan pre cursa with some white forks. It's bad as I keep thinking it.

  • I'm looking to buy a new frameset for a new build since I've slowly accumulated most the parts for one over a few months.
I'd probably use it mostly for everyday commuting and it'll be going with a 6700/7900 group because I got most of it at a bargain price..
I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking for yet which is why I need some help. I know that I don't want a frame with bulky looking tubing, I like the sleek look of the older steel frames but open to suggestions.
I'm maybe looking for a aluminium/carbon forks kinda thing, or just a nice steel frame..
Just wondering if a £250ish budget is appropriate and what I should be looking for.
I wouldn't mind splashing out a bit more on a nicer frame.
There's a specialized epic on the market for a good price, its full carbon. I've read some pretty good reviews and some not so good reviews on it.
I also have a Harry Quinn frame, need to have it checked to see what frame maker era its from but thought something too modern on it would just look odd, but I'm contemplating it.
I don't claim to know a massive deal about bikes, so help would be great appreciated!

  • If you have all the parts ready, your most important step is to find a frame that they all fit on. I learnt this the hard way.
