Thx. You should definitely do it. :-)

Nice work! How did you remove the old head tube? Did you do it mechanically or did you have to apply heat to get it separated from the remainder of the lugs?
-
• #29
Hacksaws and files. Just left enough lugs to make it a nice even fillet to lug transisition

My homemade seatpost ended up failing, so I bought a Thomson seatpost. Really the only nice seatpost available in 26.8
It's more or less done now. I have ridden it ca. 1000 km and I love it.
I might choose to paint it when I get the hang of painting frames myself. But the chrome holds up great for now. I also want a nicer wheelset eventually and a pair of full carbon forks.http://24.media.tumblr.com/6b8d3a8b83fd94809dc511866123700c/tumblr_n37pka7Eyh1s5dcnxo1_1280.jpg

Lol. I mounted the bike cx-style with a backpack full of camera equipment (25kgs) and the hole thing gave in and the saddle slipped out of the rods. I ended up in the hospital as I cut my groin pretty bad.
The alu post basicly is awithout the clamping system. I will never ever have a seatpost that consist of more than 3 parts ever again ;-)

Great work, it's nice to see an old frame resurrected and modernised. I wish I had the skills to do something like that, maybe one day.

• #36
Thanks. I do not get why we do not have a imageresizer on this site.
Anyways: -

the hole thing gave in

The alu post basicly is a [horror movie scene] without the clamping system.
Fuck! My balls have shrunk to the size of raisins reading this. Glad you're ok after all. And very good work, both the frame and the bike build.

Btw, what bottle cages are those?
-
• #40
Beautiful, what did you use for getting the brushed look of steel?
-
• #41
@russmeyer: Thank you. The cages are Blackburn from bikecomponents.de Pretty cheap alternative to something that looks like King Cages. #cheapskating

@FreddyCro: The frame was chromed under the paint. I scraped and brushed off the paint. Then smooth it out using real fine emory cloth. So it is only the head tube that is raw steel. Eventually I will paint the whole thing.

Inspiring. Got an old Colnago super with a crashed front end. Might try rebuilding it with a new front triangle and 1 1/8" as well!
