What if your bike has sensor magnets under the bb shell?
This is the piece the bb sits on so it may not be a problem although the bike is usually only restrained by the front forks and the bb can move from side to side.

I saw that one but generally ruled out stands in which you must remove the front wheel.
Because: Track nuts, 15QR, security bolts, Schmidt dynohub (mucking around with connectors).
Basically, I have too many bikes in which dropping off a front wheel is a pain in the arse or I suspect the stand won't accommodate the forks (the MTB sus forks).
For road bikes though. I actually reckon that kind of stand will be much better to work on (you don't get a pole in the way on one side of the bike).
Fair points.
All my bikes have QR's on the fronts and (aside from some fixie skidie play thing) the rears too so no such problems. There is a second, wider mount which I've yet to find a use for but I guess that's for clamping the rear end.

Are those prices for real???

I seem to be in a bike tinkering frenzy of late, and i need a work stand pretty soon. Too many slips and injuries while trying to hold a bike still. Anyone have some recommendations for a decent, fairly compact (ie foldable) stand that won't cost too many coins?
To be honest, as i have an impending car purchase soon, 100 beans is the max i can afford.

I bought this one a few years ago, thinking it would just about do the job, but have been very pleased with it. I actually wouldn't want to exchange it with a more expensive one if someone offered it to me, very good value, very sturdy
That's a good suggestion, defo along the lines of what i was thinking, any other suggestions around this price/quality?

On sale today for £30 at Lidl if anyone's interested.
Can't comment on durability but seems well built and can hold my bikes pretty steady. -

How small do these fold down?
-
• #163
About 1m high. The post that holds the clamp that you clamp the bike to is about 25cm long but is removable if you're really tight on space.

I bought one of these a couple of years ago and use it all the time, they're great for the price. Highly recommended.

"Sadly though the plastic construction of the clamp results in this workstands major downfall"
For £30 I don't think you can argue over that - unless it snaps off!

I have used one almost weekly for two years and there is nothing wrong with it.
For 30 quid you can't go wrong.

I've been using that lidl stand for over 2 years, several times a week, lives permanently outside, looking ropey now but still totally usable and looks like it will still be usable for a long time yet. one of the best buys i've made in ages.
if it lasts 3 years then £10 a year cant be bad, get another one easily enough for the same price anyway.

Any opinions on this please? Elite Workstand Race Pro. Seems to have excellent Wiggle reviews and a decent discount at the moment. Should be doing more work on my bikes myself, and building something to tour on in the spring, so need a stand really.

I've got a Park PRS21 which looks to be near identical to that Elite one. I'd highly recommend the Park one, so the Elite should also work well. The BB rest looks like its plastic as opposed to metal on that Elite, however if the price is right. . . .
