That really doesn't look like a great way to do it, does the rest of the shoe just flex like mad?
My home made vans clipless had MTB soles ground smooth and glued to the inside of the shoe with flexible resin and then I cut a hole for the cleat, it didn't push past the outer sole and touch the floor either. Retired them when they got too small and now just have the Warner SPD.
