• It's time to sell this frame and forks. I have another frame that fits me better, or I may sell the whole bike, ideally in 5 chunks. Don't really need another project this year.
Here it is, as currently built up (minus the worn out bar tape):

Old steel. A thing of beauty. Centres to centres, seat post is 55 cm and top tube 56 cm.
Fillet brazed, the only lugs being bilaminate spear points on the head tube. Never seen another.
Twin plate fork crown, Stallard drop outs, spaced 110 mm / 4.5"
The frame from memory weighs around 1800 grammes and takes a 26.6 seat post (plain gauge 531?) B.W. threadless BB shell.
Under 8 coats of cack were some remains of the original paint finish - a lovely flam. deep cherry, which it deserves again.

When, where and by whom it was made remains a mystery. The best guess by those that know was H.E. (Doc) Green.
Last year's CP thread is here, should you wish to read more waffle :

    Stripped frame details are here:

The F&F will come with a Stronglight A9 headset and a new, generic 'RPM' 103 mm BB. Difficult to know what this is worth.
    £95?
    Feel free to suggest otherwise.

  • That's seriously nice, great price too
Is the build in this pic with 700c or 27"? And is the current paint powdercoat or a rattle can job?

  • Thanks. It has 27" x 1" Mavic rims laced to 1970's Lambert sealed bearing hubs.
Would look better with bigger tyres / wider rims.

It's in a very silvery zinc primer which is remarkably resilient; I was waiting until I knew what it was before stripping and proper paint refinishing. That's not gonna happen now...

  • Filet brazed and the seat stay detail I'd say 99% a Claud Butler of a Hobbs of Barbican.

  • Hobbs are with a lot of cash at this level, I'm pretty sure there's a collectors club and a frame number registry, worth a look!

  • Fifties/fillet brazed/bi-laminated makes me think of CB, in my very limited experience (I nearly bought one last Summer, so did a bit of research).

    Have you tried Retrobike?

  • I thought of both those brands. No match, I'm afraid.
My nephew has a CB International Club. I also have a 1949 Hobbs Raceweight frame.

Retrobike's a good idea. I don't know why but I can't warm to their site. Too many forums already.

  • The mystery perseveres...

I also find RB difficult to use, both on account of the format and (some of) the users; however, hiding among the snide remarks couched with "smileys" and "why oh why" closet bigotry, is an invaluable resource.

Worth a punt, both for a possible ID and as a market.

  • Cheers SS, I may well do, if the tumbleweed continues to roll.
You know I've got Italian Gears now.

  • How much for whole bike?

  • PM'd you.

  • Met Andy at his place, lovely bike indeed!
Not what I was looking for though, so I will pass.

    Thanks Andy!

  • Hi there,

How much for the whole bike?

    Thanks!

  • Not much interest in this unusual frame. I'll drop it to £85.

  • Deposit taken on the frame.

  • Oh nice :) glad it might have found a new home.

  • Cheers. I'll probably start a thread over in 'components' soon for the remaining parts.
A fair amount of other old stuff to move on, too.
