For Sale: Custom built rugged fixie - £250

  • I'm selling my completely unique, custom made fixed gear bike. From initial concept, design, conversion and final touches, no time was spared to achieve a really unique bombproof design that would last quite a few decades of riding.

Project started with an older MTB CrMo bike that was completely stripped and rebuilt with some custom components. The stem and bar were welded together and the hubs were custom made as well (look at the bottom of the page for details). The bike was finally painted in a two-color combination inspired by Guinness beer.

Condition: The bike has been lightly used for a few years now so there are a few visual marks and scratches from use (no crashes!). It was regularly maintained though so it works perfectly!

    ----- Specification -----
Frame: 4130 CroMo tubing, tig welded (2,15 kg)
    Size: 18" / Medium
Fork: 4130 CorMo, 1" steerer (threadless)
    Headsed: Ritchy
Stem and handle bar welded together (CroMo)
Seatpost: Kalloy - UNO (black anodised)
    Seat: Selle Italia - XR
    Rims: 26" Vuelta - Airline 1 (36 holes)
Hubs: custom (36 holes, 2030 aluminium body, hardened steel axle, sealed bearings)
    Spokes: Sapim - Leader
Tyres: Shwalbe - Fat Frank (2.3, white front, black rear)
    Cog: Shimano DuraAce 15T, 3/32
    Chain: Izumi - CIC 3/32
Chain ring: Gebhardt 38T (2,5 ratio, 15 skidpatches)
Bashring: custom (waterjet cut, black anodised)
    Cranks: Shimano STX (black anodised)
    Pedals: Welgo MTB
Toe clips: Cristophe - Zefal Mountain Bike
Bonus: Few extra chain links, haflink and a spare bashguard included.

    Weight: +- 10 kg

    ----- Price -----
Besides hours of time, £300 were invested for the original bike and ca. £400 for the additional modifications and upgrades. So more than £700 excluding all the manual work.

I would like to get at least a fraction of this cost, so price would be £250.

Shipping within EU (3-4 days, insured and tracked).

    ----- Details -----

    Custom hubs:

The hubs are made of less parts than usual, there is no spacer between axle and bearing, it is only possible because axle is machined too.
That gives space for bigger and stronger sealed bearings. MTB frames have wider rear hub clearance than roadies and instead of using spacers as with commercial product I extended the hub body - this extremely wide hub holds the rim firmly in place and keeps it true.

Some weight could be shaved of by making walls thinner in some places but I have chosen cleaner looks and some extra strength. The flange height is above normal for lower forces on spoke holes etc. but not a typical high flange for weight sake, it would be an overkill.

Final result is roughly half a kilo of bombproof awesomeness.

    Gear ratio: 2.5:

    rpm - kmh
    10 - 3,2
    20 - 6,4
    30 - 9,6
    40 - 12,8
    50 - 16,0
    60 - 19,2
    70 - 22,4
    80 - 25,6
    90 - 28,8
    100 - 32,0
    110 - 35,2
    120 - 38,4
    130 - 41,6
    140 - 44,8
    150 - 48,0
