  • **UPDATE: **Trains our are from Victoria or London Bridge, I will aim for the 8:15 London Bridge to arrive Redhill 8:49. There is an 8:30 Victoria but that will be the Brighton train and if the weather is good, very busy. So rely on that train at your peril!

Last admission at the observatory is 4pm and it closes at 6. I expect to arrive around 2-3pm all going well. We will stop for food and drink as necessary but it does get quite remote for SE England so if it's hot try to have some water on you.

See Blue Fleet below for those who wish to ride out, it adds about 40 miles I guess depending on whether you are a Northerner or Southerner. I'll PM my phone number on Friday those on the list.

See ride notes below re hills and off road parts.

After the fun of the 'london suburbs' ride I thought a more green and laney ride would be nice. After visiting the original Royal Observatory at Greenwich there is a tempting target of the former Royal Observatory at Hurstmonceux (pronounced: Hurst-mon-zoo.)

I have a rough route of about 70 miles starting from Redhill at 9am and ending ultimately at Polegate for trains back to Victoria. Prospective route with possible changes: Here

There is an opportunity to pay around £8 and visit the grounds which include a 'science' park and some telescope domes; that's payable on the door so while it is a general plan if the weather is bollocks I might just ride on.

Note, this is a daytime ride so no observing I'm afraid!

At the rate you are progressing with these rides Nic I expect by years end you will be organising a forum ride into space. LFGSS goes to Mars?

Hahaha, I'll see what I can do!

  • Given these rides are growing at c. 30 miles/month, expect something around 300 miles in December. Not enough for Mars but plenty for the international space station!
Interestingly space is defined by international convention as only 100km, about the distance from London to Brighton.

  • Yes!
