Back in 2009 I'm pretty sure I did a run at Maindy with just a beanie on when no-one was looking, would have to dig it out though!
Other athletes are less sensitive to helmet choice, depends heavily on the body position and to a lesser extent clothing. One aero test with a rider showed up no significant differences between a Bell Meteor, Uvex FP2 and a Kask Bambino, but the Bambino was more comfy so a better choice.
On someone else a McLaren helmet was quicker than a Bambino, on another a Selector was quicker than a Bambino, etc., there are some general rules and avenues to take with helmet testing but it is individual.

full pointies will be overly hot.
In this country? LOL-a-rama.
Kona hot, sure but this is UK's famous Nodnol.

In that case, just buy a Bell Javelin, loads of awesome people like them especially hippy who is very, very fast and quite lovely looking to boot. Can usually be had for under £100, often much less.
This. I've got a spare vented KASK lid too that you could have cheaps if you have a big head.

Given the fairly small differences between them, the one you can get on fastest in T1 might be the best :-)
The Jav has an advantage here too - it has an open back and flexible ear bits so is comfortable and pretty fast on.

Probably the one you can see in the two pics on this page.

Does anyone know if the Richmond Park TTs are running again this year?

Finally got around to measuring my rollout for Medium Gear events. On 48/18 it comes in at 18ft 4 1/4". So comfortably under.
6" doesn't sound like much, but on my calculations 48/18 over 25 miles is 7,193 pedal revolutions, meaning if I had a gear that rolled out to exactly 18ft 10 1/4" I would have to pedal 209 times less :0)

The only mention I can find is on
http://www.kingstonwheelers.co.uk/timetrialing.shtmlJune the 22nd. Not sure what district this falls under but can't find a mention if it on ctt website, London south event list, or London west website which still has a blank page titled "London West District Time Trial Programme for 2013" for events.

They don't have a fixed gear category any more unfortunately. I've done it on the pursuit bike and bunch track bike in the past, don't think it slowed me down too much

So, it turns out that the delay on my TTbike is no longer the busted mech hanger (which is apparently fixed) but that when they tried to fit my old brake levers (these levers previously mounted on these bars) to my new Zipp vuka alumina base bars, they discovered that they didn't fit. Apparently the old FSA Vision levers have an external mounting clamp, and the new Zipp bars require an internal 'expander bung' type clamp.
So, any recommendations for a decent set of new TT brake levers. My first thought were these Profile ones, but it's only a tenner more for these DA ones. Will the Shimano ones be noticeably better? Any other suggestions?

I've got the carbon sram ones (tt900? they were delivered in error, I ordered the lesser alu ones). Happy with them.

SRAM TT500 or TT900, depending on whether you want to spend an extra £50 on saving 16g. Functionally they are identical, which also means they are both equally millions of miles ahead of the horrid Vision levers.
If you're short of money, you can get adapters to fit the Vision levers to normal bars for under a tenner

Looks to me like the Profile ones are £50 a pair, while the Shimano ones are £60 a side (or, if you follow one of the other Madison links, £130 a pair. No, that maths doesn't work). Does that affect your choice?

I hadn't noticed that, but it certainly does alter my thinking.
I like the look of the SRAM TT500 levers and given that CRC has them at £40 they seem like a good back up, but I'm haemorrhaging money at the moment so I'll try the adaptor bung first. Unfortunately 2mins of googling seems to suggest that I'll have to get them from Halfords.

Tektro RX 4.1 - under £14 at Ribble.

And worth every penny :-)
Buy the SRAM, then you won't have to buy them later after you've discovered that you don't like the alternatives.

So for my first MG event there is prize money for first, second and third. There are four riders. Bagsy forth spot.

C'mon mate, think positively. You can get at least third! ;-)

When and where?
Get everything ready early, good warmup and then smash its back doors in! It's all about the money!

Lea Valley CC on the E2/25 a week tomorrow. I honestly expected more than 4 MGers. Perhaps they're all in the variable gear event looking for fast times.
That's quite a range at those speeds, probably almost a whole minute between a bad road lid and the best head fairing. The data point some of us would like to see is where the bare shaved head fits in, but I guess nobody working on sports with helmet compulsion is going to measure that.
