Too narrow, hard to get hold of and overpriced.
I'm not putting boutique rims on that bike.

Hah, actually they're pretty wide (there's more than one version of the HED) at 25mm.
I agree though, building up two wheelset as we speak, one is an event wheels (for audax), and the other is a daily wheels.

Yeah the supersized version would be good on a Sunday Best bike.

That's a rim de-sticker, Conti Grand Prix Classics and a dirty-ride-in-the-rain away from being a really fucking great bike. I'd love an 853 Mercian.

^^^^ Come on! That's just a old/fauxretro steel frame with a modern groupset.
Ti Randonneuse, xacd build the frame, local framebuilder build the fork.
Bit of a risk going for xacd but seemed to work well, quill a bit odd with those massive downtube thought.
Other than the fugly fork and silly stem I think that works really well.

This is functional? Because it doesn't look like it's even been ridden.

^^ brilliant.
EDT: actually I'm not sure... how you stop? Shoe brake? And I can imagine a kid with struggling to load it without a centre stand. Is it finished?

It was more in response to Ed's comment on the downtube. I meant that I think that with a different fork it would be really nice. But point taken on the aesthetics.

Ok standby for extra "fugly"

Was that frame recently for sale on here?

No. It was a bought from Sash, but I've owned it for a few years. It's been fixed, dinglespeed, fixed again, geared and now geared with silly wheels.
HED Ardennes come in 650b now.
