  • thats worthy of a nerg!

  • I've been eyeing up the orange PT jacket for a while now. My question is will I find it useful enough?

Take today for example, I had on the L/S brevet jersey with a PT sleeveless base layer on.

I found I was warm most of the ride aside from some fast downhills but when we stopped I got cold quite quickly.

Would the PT jacket have kept me warm whilst stopping and would I have been too hot when going up climbs etc today? Weather app on my phone said it felt like 4-6 degrees. I don't own any jackets at all, tend not to ride in the pissing down rain but I did get pretty cold a few times over the winter.

    What do you guys think?

  • this thread is full of #fomo

  • Pro team jacket won't keep you warm when you stop, so keep riding. But the wind proof panels at the front will help on the descents.

  • PTJ is too warm for the current climate anyway.

  • For you, Ed.

    I am thinking Assos.

  • And what about a long sleeve baselayer?

  • I've been eyeing up the orange PT jacket for a while now. My question is will I find it useful enough?

YMMV, but for Proper Rides this year (on the road anyway) I've worn a PTJacket on every ride except those where I've gone for the Full Gimp Look and worn a San Remo Thermosuit. I wouldn't be without mine, and that's despite owning a couple of Gabbas.

  • I would always choose windproofing over insulation. I run much of the year in a thin wind jacket with a appropriate base. This policy counts even more for riding IMHO. The PTJ can be worn with nothing under if its milder. Its more than soft enough.

If you rely purely on insulation you will feel windchill on decents, and overheat on climbs.

  • Had to chicken out and choose full sleeve baselayer and brevet jersey this morning.

Probably slightly too warm but last night was a cold journey home and I dont want that again.

  • Just been in Condor looking at the Classic Wind Jacket.

The large fit me well but was quite trim, so could only be worn with a base layer or jersey underneath. The XL would be more comfortable for the touting and commuting I have in mind but was a little baggy and long in the arms, i.e. not the 'Rapha' fit.

    Should I be looking elsewhere?

  • lose some weight.

    win win

  • I've lost 6kg since January and might lose another 2 but no more than that.

    But thanks.

I guess the jacket isn't meant to be worn on a low-octane commute over sweatshirts etc, hence my question about looking elsewhere. I'd want it to be comfortable for touring as well, not too close-fitting.

  • Vulpine?

  • +1 for checking out Vulpine. Kinoko and Cycle Surgery carry stuff in store.

i have an xl one for prommuting and a large for roadie douchebag mode

    simples

though not sure what size i'd need for touting

  • Tickets?! Thanks James, are we about the same size? I'll just have to get two.

  • dunno, i cant believe you are as fat as i am these days!

the windshirt can be a good commuting option, and then the wind jacket for riding

  • James, what do you mean by windshirt?

Not really feeling the details on the Vulpine stuff, nice though.

  • the windshirt is currently on sale in the clearance section of the rapha site

  • I assume it's a reference to one of these. They are rather handy. Good for breezy but mild days.

  • The Sky club and vintage jersey look the business.

Had no idea free postage had been bumped up to £200 min spend. Thats ridiculous.
