I am impressed with myself! Finally got round replacing the SSD on my 2nd hand mac mini, it's actally much easier than I expected... having long ish finger nails also helped!! Yay! Thanks for all the tips and offer to lend tools from everyone!!
Now contemplating to maybe replace the HDD and DVD drive to some good SSDs on my good old faithful MBP... This might be a stupid quesiton, once the DVD drive is taken out, can it be used as a portable one somehow??
Also, typing on a cheap viglen PC keyboard feels strangly good... (this is me taking to myself...)

Is Apple ever going to add Blu-ray in their line-up?

just got a text from my mum "my mouse cursor has turned into a sideways T and wont' do anything" .. Anyone had this happen to them?
Did you manage to resolve this? Bless mums for their overestimation of the younger generation's techie know-how. -

Doubt it. They're facing out cd/dvd-drives from all their ranges, why would they u-turn and start adding it back?
For software, they have the app store. For movies, they have the iTunes store. No need for a drive.

Isn't Blu-ray sth that Sony invented to try and replace DVDs or sth?
-
• #5834
Blu-Ray is what Sony went up against Toshiba's HD-DVD.

Bugger.
Been checking ebay but it's hard to find anything decent there either. It's either half broken or too expensive, no point missing out on warranty for £100 or so
^my thoughts exactly.
I have bought a couple of Gumtree... they dont come up too often but when they do they are around the 550 mark... I wouldn't buy a new one at this point, a refresh must be weeks away...

But that might be a 4k display? Really don't want one for web design work. Retina macbook + regular resolution big screen will be perfect combo whilst retina matures and becomes standard
-
• #5837
A refresh has been weeks away for a long time. I just want something big, shiny, thunderbolt and manypixels. Not particularly fussed about 4k.
-
• #5838
Aye, fair point... i'm sure it'll arrive with the mini refresh... ...

I have an iPhone 4 with iOS 6. Is there a way to empty entire folders in mail? I can't find a solution, surely I don't have to delete each message individually?
-
• #5840
Delete the folder, then make one with the same name again?

Is there a rumor of a refresh then of the cinema displays ?
I'm holding out to buy a 4k monitor, and could possibly stretch to one -

On a slightly related note, I'd like a tasteful looking ~20" monitor that won't break the bank. It's for desktop use with my 11" MacBook Air (nothing colour sensitive).
I've been considering second hand old Apple Cinema Displays, but these are ~10 years old now and I'd like to know if there's something else I should consider.
Can anyone recommend anything?

I had the 23 version of the old one, something died in it a few months ago so bought an updated one, which is nicer, the old ones are classics though, don't think I would of upgraded otherwise... 99% of external monitors out there look cheap and tacky...
I sold my broken ACD for peanuts to a guy who was prepared to tinker and he got it fixed pretty easily, happy endings all round... -
• #5844
Shit, sorry to hear that. Very happy with my air - apart from it dropping the WiFi connection every time the display goes to sleep
So does my mbp, think its an osx thing. Read somewhere that you can fix it by deleting a .plist somewhere but haven't got round to fix it yet
You think they would have included a bug fix for that in one of the 2 million updates...
No problem for two weeks, now driving me insane. In clamshell mode, but if I stop using the internet for a moment, it drops out. Then takes an ages to find it again. Or finds the signal, but won't let me log onto it. It's taking the piss a little.

Been using one of the old 23" ACDs for a couple of years now, and I have nothing bad to say about it, guess the ports on the back are more than a little outdated, but other than that its been great.

Same here, got the 23" at home. It's a great monitor, prefer it to a glossy one tbh. Tempted to get a 30" now that they're almost decently priced
-
• #5847
Yeah, I'm tempted by that or possibly a second 23 at some point

Delete the folder, then make one with the same name again?
Is that my only option? No way to batch delete emails other than to individually mark them?
-
• #5849
What kind of an email account is it? POP3 or IMAP?
(Can't you batch-delete outside of your iPhone, and then they would get deleted off the iPhone as well?) -

Thanks guys. I presume eBay is best bet to pick one up? What's a reasonable price for one? There seem to be quite a few on eBay for anywhere between £180-300 – is the top end of that typical inflated eBay prices?
