How did your beloved Lewis get on?
Ridiculous comment or trolling?
Both...
-
• #3978
Kimi second in first practice..........its on BBC Red Button or BBC2.
Good to see.

I'm pretty sad to see that Grosjean hasn't got a decent car this season. Before the exodus/money dry up at Lotus I was hoping to see him compete for the championship this year.

Don't fret too much. It won't be long until the Lotus is sorted out.
Mapping and software issues still ongoing but will get fixed. Renault have massively dropped the ball this year with the hybrid PU but it is getting sorted.

is it going to be a brawn-like year where Hamilton* get's too far ahead for the others to catch?
I hope so, because paul will owe me 20 desert bucks...
-
• #3982
Hamilton was 9-1 to win this year's championship at the end of last year.... £25 well spent I think :)

I was very tempted to put a bet on a Massa podium at the end of last season. Kind of kicking myself now.

You think they'll get there?

I know I'll probably get lynched for this, but since we're all racing fans, did anyone watch the Qatar MotoGP race?
Absolutely fucking awesome! It's available to watch on ITV player or you can check out the 4 min highlight video from MotoGP's YouTube channel here:

Yes. There or there abouts. There are massive gains to be had by sorting out the current problems, which can and will be done. I know it looks terrible now but there are full seconds of lap time improvements to come. Aerodynamically, the data suggests a very good car. Similar in speeds to Red Bull in the fast corners. It's all down to the PU, the ECU and the mapping. It'll probably take until the European rounds to see it though but it will come.

Yep. Renault are behind the curve since in the past they've made it clear that KERS is something for the team to do, not them. As a result, they haven't got as much experience as the other engine manufacturers in energy recovery systems. However, the fundamentals aren't that complicated - the devil, as ever, is in the detail and there's no reason why they shouldn't be able to get it right, given time.

Odd question.
If Red Bull insist on using their own fuel flow meter, whats to stop others from using their own individual meters also? Wouldn't that just lead to everybody using whatever amount fuel they liked? The only barrier would be the size of the petrol tank.
-
• #3989
^ that's exactly the point and why Red Bull won't win their appeal. It's not allowed. FIA regulated fuel flow meters only.
The rules are clear.

• #3990
As Coulthard pointed out having 300 litre/hour flow available for a qualifying lap might be useful. Especially if no one else had more than 100.

Yeehar! Can't wait for Austin.

this whole fuss about noise
as a kid you could get a screwdriver and poke a hole in your exhaust to make it louder / sound like a tank
any chance they've tried this on the f1 cars ?surely with 600+ bhp trying to escape it should make some noise, just open up the baffles ?
-
• #3993
The whole point of the turbo and ERS-H is to recover the energy from the exhaust. So naturally this will baffle the noise.
The hole in your exhaust makes it louder because it lets gas escape before or from the silencer. There are no silencers on F1 cars.

right thats me put in my place
thanks !!;-)
so there is no real way to increase volume ? apart from mic's and mini loudspeakers, they could play last years sound track
-
• #3995
A totally efficient car would be silent.
-
• #3996
100% conversion from potential energy into kinetic energy
i guess so -
• #3997
I think ultimately racing won today
-
• #3998
That was an entertaining race, with lots of actual overtaking and racing.who'd have thunk it?
I quite like the new volume levels. You get to hear the sound of cars running over the kerbing and tyres losing grip. The nature of the sound isn't great, but that's turbos for you. Compare the noise of a N/A Porsche 911 with a turbo one for example.
-
• #3999
It's (relatively) common amongst the high power Supra et al crowd to run with a cat and nothing else- using the turbo as a silencer, in effect.
My turbo volvo is a lot quieter (on a 3" exhaust) than an NA version on a stock exhaust.

I enjoyed that race. Best driver was Alonso in my opinion. His car seems to be down on power and speed compared to others, and still he's close to the front. A really superb driver. Bottas versus Massa was very funny, and I think Massa called that right........if Bottas was really much faster, surely he would have shown that with a clean overtake? Hulkenberg also did a great job - Lotus needed a bit of good news.
