So it's ok to try make any stationary player foot down by hooking their mallet?
Yes
I didn't realise screens were still ok, so the only real change is not checking players that aren't going for the ball.
Correct, they may check you to get past the screen/block
I was under the impression that screens and blocks were being taken out of the game? That's the way the nah video explanation made it sound.
The original version was quite confusing, v4.1 seems much clearer. Hopefully the ref resources/ref quiz that's being developed (or so I believe) will have some scenarios people can work through/watch to clear up any confusion. Rob and John's responses about the interference are pretty much bang on.
It's still OK to block them, just not check them off the ball, if they run into you that's still OK, the only thing it's trying to get rid of is people pushing 2 defenders off their bikes as the 3rd guy gets a free shot on goal. I'm sure it's OK to ignore a little bit of incidental contact, all you need to do as the attacker who is screening is to get in the defender's way and be ready to receive contact if the defender tries to get past you with contact rather than speed or out braking.
Rob is absolutely right.
...
It's fine to block people.
Incidental contact is fine.
If people block you, you can check them.
All the rule is trying to stop is trying to stop is plays where the purpose is to take someone out who isn't involved in play.
Also, the rule applies to both offense and defence equally.
