Spare wheels are always useful!
Disassemble the hub and check the condition of the bearings and cones. Replace parts as necessary (SJS is a good source of parts). Reassemble with plenty of waterproof grease.

Open it up: if it just needs new bearings then that's cheap and easy, if the races are knackered then you might as well salvage the rim.
EDIT: too slow, what ^ he said.

takes all of ten minutes to get the hub going again unless theres unpredicted damage, which takes 2 minutes to determine.

Alright cool thanks guys, will give it a go
Hey guys, I've been riding on a pair of R500s for a few years and the rear hub has recently seized, bearings crunching etc. I've recently upgraded my wheels anyway so is there much point repairing? Is the rim worth keeping, selling? There's not much rim wear (never been a fan of the back brake..)
