shame you don't have his registration, or i would suggest you report him for threatening/intimidating behaviour
Except in reality police would probably do nothing much about it. And then as the op said he may be dealing with a lot more threatening behaviour.
Having been in similar situations on numerous occasions I have never felt the need to report it. I do think if you stand your ground it usually won't get that far. If these luddite bully cunts smell fear they will lose the small shred of humanity they once possessed and actively try squish you in their 4x4. In summary, I have found, if you run, they chase..

He threatened him with death, police should follow that up and have every right to.

Should and will are unfortunately two different things.. When I got knocked off and fucked my shoulder the police officer encouraged me to admit nobody was at fault while off my tits on painkillers at the hospital. He said as I had a record and the driver was a doctor "it probably wouldn't go anywhere".. I was young and naive.

In previous (though admittedly less threatening) situations I have stood my ground, but this was too close to home, where I have a new baby, there was no one else around, and the angry gentleman was not in control of himself.

East Landan 14:00 waiting to turn right into settles street off commercial road and waiting for a gap in on coming traffic young chap comes out of side street blocks the carriageway in his audi tt and starts harassing me for not throwing myself into oncoming traffic. Give him the clenched fist side to side sign (helpful police description) and he starts chasing me down the road. Turn right up field gate street no entry chases me down there. For some insane reason I get off the bike and stop. Goes to his boot and gets a hammer out. Luckily an Asian lady starts telling him to stop and an ambulance crew get out of their transport. He he realises its probably best not to attack someone in broad daylight with a hammer and scarpers. Thanks to the all involved - cyclist from the flats (are you on here) ambulance staff, 10 witnesses and the mum who all gave their details. Hooray for the British public.

My mate was cycling home on the old Kent Road today and was met by this Wanker who tried to kick him off his bike. The reason? He was cycling to in the middle to avoid pot holes full of rain. Here's a link to the video on YouTube.

Cuntist move, especially motorcyclists should know not to undertake vehicle, hope he report it to the police as this is an attempt assault, as there's no such thing as road rage.
Might be worth mentioning to your mate that he does need to look behind more often, he never looked back for the entire duration of the video.

magnatom gets a conviction:
Helmet camera footage of a driver twice brake-checking a cyclist in Glasgow has resulted in the motorist, who turned out to be serving a driving ban, being convicted on four separate charges – dangerous driving, breach of the peace, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.
On Wednesday, the driver, who pleaded guilty in the face of the video evidence, was fined £375, banned from driving for 48 weeks and ordered to perform 150 hours of community payback.
The incident took place on Springburn Glasgow, on 28 April 2013. It was filmed by Dave Brennan, whose helmet camera videos, posted to YouTube under the name Magnatom, have been used on BBC programmes.
Makes one wonder if it would have gone to court if the driver had a valid license and insurance. Not what I would call a win for the cycling community.
