I read that article and felt physically ill. not just the act but the capacity of a human to do that to a harmless, defenceless animal that has little other capacity in itself than trust and love.
Imagine the uproar if this happened 14 times in a year, animal rights supporters would be up in arms, with the public in tow. "What is wrong with this country?" they would cry, "where have we gone wrong?".
