Gaggia factory 106 update- got the base off, the pressure stat unit had come apart, leading to the observed thermal excursion AKA heating until it reached 4 bar and blew the pressure relief valve.
In the very centre of the base of the pressure vessel, from the underneath, there is a junction of wires- live in/neutral out.
Under a plastic cover here is the reset- a little red pin that pops out when the unit gets too hot- to reset, push this back in, and replace the cover.
My machine now turns the elements on, which is good.
However, the act of venting the excess pressure to atmosphere has been too much for the pressure release valve- although having stripped it I can't really see what's gone wrong.
But it looks like I need a new one- unless anyone's GoogleFu is superior to mind and can find a guide to servicing the valve?
