Motorways, like brakes, are death...

If he hates bikes so much that he has to go as the crow flies he should get himself... well, a crow I guess.

Lol very true.
I informed him it takes roughly 67miles the actual cycle route but he is persistent on us trying this hell hole route.

I would be persistent in telling him to fuck off. Looks like a horrible way to go.

It will be close to no fun at all. I hate those A road schlepps and the very idea of dragging my sidis through a load of discarded lorry driver jazz mags and used nappies while being buzzed by trucks at 70 mph...

My mate rode Sarfend to Basildonk along the 127 and didn't die.
There are more pleasant routes that are longer, but if speed is key, get a train. -

Haha Basildonk and Sarfend. Love it.
It's just the 4 junction/roundabout things I'm worried about.
I cycled to Dagenham East from Bethnal Green before and had to sprint across one before. Bike over shoulder. Almost went head over tits on the barrier.

I've done a section of the A127, and while doable, it's definitely not recommended. The lanes are very narrow and there are footways alongside for some of the way, so you can be on those, although that still makes crossing exit lanes quite hazardous. Drivers certainly don't expect people on bikes there. It's an A-road which wasn't built to specifications that you might be used to. It is a real shame that the convenient alignments between London and Southend have all been squatted by poor-quality roads like the A13.
A friend of mine has mapped our a route from London to Southend-on-sea, which envolves cycling down the ratty A127 trail, jumping off 4 times, walking next to the motorway on the grass then maneuvering your way across 4 sets of intersections.
Is he just plain retarded or on a death wish.
