2.0 straight guage, 2.0/1.8 or 2.0/1.5. What would be best suited for a rad fixxehskiddeh?
Don't use straight gauge, they're usually weaker despite being thicker. 2.0-1.5-2.0 will be a bit lighter but can be harder to build with. 2.0-1.8-2.0 are a good all-round choice.
You might struggle to get Alpine IIIs in some track hubs. Pretty sure you wouldn't get them through the spoke holes on Dura-Ace 7710s.

Do any of you guys know of a super low stack 1" threaded headset?

Chris King are the lowest AFAIK.

Tange makes some good and cheap ones which are pretty low.

Tange passage and shimano 105 are even lower than the CK grip nut: http://www.lfgss.com/post3481216-18.html

Thanks guys, I had bought a Campagnolo Veloce one that wouldn't work. I think it was 40-42 mm if i can get one in the low 30s it should be fine. I think i will get the cheapest low stack one i can find and if it works get something nicer.
Just to confirm, i should measure the head tube and add the stack height. then this should be the same/shorter than the steerer tube?

Out of curiosity I did a search to find out the stack height of my Stronglight A9 headset (38mm) but then came across one of the Tange ones at 33.3mm, so I thought I might as well post it here if it's any good for you.

Thanks Philpub.
I measured my head tube which came out at 132mm
the steerer tube came out at 165mm
Should i be looking for something at 33mm? -

I'll let somebody else answer that. You're getting into LBS territory for me! :-)

Or you can go for a lower stack and add a 1mm rubber spacer or 2.
