  • That is a splined allen key, but there are may types of spline

    EMPlRE

  • @Hugo7 - maybe try Kathmandu? I've had one of their goretex jackets for the last couple of years & it's been really good, looks pretty similar to the one you pasted too, thinnk it was £120.

I've had a version of the firefox for about 6 years. It packs up very small. When they are new they are great. Mine got washed wrongly, and now I often find condensation on the inside - on the other hand I do sweat like a pig so I tend to avoid waterproofs unless I absolutely have to wear them.

Kathmandu stuff is well made, but the sizing can be a bit weird - they aren't made to fit Brits. I've had a fleece which has lasted 13 years and is still my number one choice. People will think you are a Kiwi / Aussie though.

almost any camping shop. Cotswold, Millets etc

  • Cheers. I'll check them out. When you say weird sizing you you mean you have to size up/down, or something else?

I'm fairly stocky so if it's skinny Euro style then it probably wouldn't work.

Check out a Rohan shop, most of their stuff is really pricy, but this strikes me as good value. http://www.rohan.co.uk/mens-travel-and-outdoor-waterproofs-Atlas-Jacket?ocode=03556B91
I have one of the elite jackets, and it is astonishingly light, I never thought it would last after two years it still looks like new. It folds away into a tiny package, and weighs less than a smart shirt. A bit more money though.

I've got Rohan stuff that's been worn pretty much every day for a decade and it looks set fair for another 10 years, which puts the price into perspective.

  • This is doing my head in. How do you stop Android Chrome resizing a textarea when you start typing in it. None of the normal shit like resize:none or max-height work. Every other browser is fine, just Android Chrome pushes the textarea down and overlaps the following label. WTF is going on? storms off back to proper code

  • You can change the amount it zooms when you click in the text boxes somewhere in the depths of the settings.

  • Any tips on classic style metal backed pads, the none bolt backed ones, that are half decent, to go in my mafac racers?

  • 24 hole classic-looking/silver shimano cassette hub. Has to take bladed spokes without whining. Go.
Anything late 90's and available somewhere without having to sell my soul gets a gold star.

  • How much is your soul worth? Royce are classic looking, silver, Shimano freehub, 24h, slotted for bladed spokes and, er, £539 a pair

  • The word 'slotted' seems to occur a lot in connection with Shimano 7900 24H hubs, half the price of Royce and probably better. Not sure whether all the 24H and 28H ones are slotted or it's an option, so best to double check with the supplier before buying.

Probably any camping shop indeed. Or ask in Touring Equipment thread.

  • Just had a first go with my Speedplay Zero pedals last night. I have correct shims, held a straight edge up to the cleat and it was very level. I've not over torqued the screws. Cleats also lightly GT85'd.

I'm 74kg and I had to give hard stamp down to get into them. Thats not right, shirley?

Are they really meant to be that stiff to clip into?

I use chain lube in the cleats to keep them smooth. They can take a bit of wearing in at first and I find it helps if you put most pressure on the inside of your foot. Make sure all the screws are very tight otherwise you will have trouble getting out.

  • ta, tester. think I'm going to have to start by selling my body.

  • ^what about the other £538.50?

  • :(

  • For assembling a steel frame and mostly-carbon fork (crown is metal) with headset and crown race, should I use lithium grease, carbon paste, both or other?

  • I'm looking for a plain black short sleeved jersey, I've seen the howies slip stream which looks decent. Any other reccomendations before I order? The £50 for the howies is more or less the top of my budget.

  • I've taken off my Campag 12-25 off for cleaning several times, only this time I noticed that the 12t sprocket sits flush on top of the 13t and I have to hold it still while tightening the lockring so it doesnt move out of alignment. I could have sworn that previously there was actually space on the freehub for it to sit if that makes sense.

This morning I transferred it to a new wheel, same again. So have I been imagining things or are all cassettes like this?
